    ABOUT STEWIE THE DUCK SWIM SCHOOL

    In 1989, Kim and Stew Leonard, Jr. lost their 21-month old son, Stewie, in a drowning accident. Since then, they have dedicated their lives to preventing this tragedy from striking other families. This includes founding the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, which has provided millions of dollars in funding for swim lesson scholarships for children in need and writing children’s books on water safety. In 2023, they will open the first Stewie the Duck Swim School in Norwalk, Connecticut, across the street from the flagship Stew Leonard’s farm fresh food store. Stewie the Duck Swim School’s mission is to save a life one swim lesson at a time. All proceeds from the school will be used to fund swim lessons for underserved children.

    The Stewie the Duck Swim School is slated to open June 1, 2023, and will be a premier, best-in-class learn-to-swim facility that makes learning to swim fun while incorporating the Stew Leonard’s stores passionate approach to customer service, world class employee training, and professional growth.     ROLE SUMMARY

    Swim Instructors/Lifeguards at Stewie the Duck Swim School will be responsible for conducting children’s swim lessons for multiple clients of different ages and skill levels. Lifeguards/Swim Instructors at Stewie the Duck Swim School will be responsible for supervising swimmers and patrons in and around the pool. Lifeguards/Swim Instructors assure safety by minimizing dangers, enforcing pool rules and regulations, and providing assistance. Lifeguards/Swim Instructors must be responsible and professional. This role reports to the Aquatics Director.

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITY (included but not limited to)

    · Organize and instruct individual students and small groups in swim lessons and aquatic safety.

    · Ensure lesson objectives adhere to Stewie the Duck Swim School procedures and methods as referenced in the Training Manual and during in service trainings.

    · Educate and enforce safety rules. Strive to prevent accidents, maintain discipline. Administer first aid in the event of injury.

    · Complete all paperwork as it pertains to student records and progress reports.

    · Assist in maintaining a clean and safe pool environment for clients, staff, and general public.

    · Act as a company spokesperson at community events by educating potential clients and community members on water safety and drowning prevention.

    · Represent the Philosophy of Stewie the Duck Swim School.

    · Perform cleaning tasks of both the pool and its surroundings as needed.

    · Attend weekly meetings and training sessions and ensure that training manuals, handouts, and study guides are completed if applicable or reviewed

    · Perform ad hoc duties as needed (e.g. office/clerical work, marketing & event participation, etc.).

    · Display excellent customer service and communicate to everyone who comes to the facility.

    · Smile and have fun during the entire shift. Ensure that the last student gets the same enthusiasm as the first student.

    · Test Pool and record chlorine, PH, and pool temperature (AM, midday, PM)

    · Greet all patrons, be courteous and helpful

    · Review and familiarize yourself with the Emergency Action Plan.

    · Assure safety in the pool and surrounding areas at all time.

    · Have fanny pack and whistle at all times. Keep tube with you at all times.

    · Daily walk-through facility to monitor any possible area in need of attention

    · Follow all Lifeguard Procedures and Policies Manuals.

    · Ensure updated Lifeguard Duties check sheet is completed by deck supervisor.

    · Make sure backboard is available and all supplies for first aid are stocked.

    · Be visible and identifiable. Remain at post while members or patrons are in the water.

    · Help put equipment away, clean deck, and other closing duties.

    · Handle minor repairs.

    · Maintain a safe environment for all swimmers and staff.

    · Be prepared to handle emergencies calmly and professionally.

    ROLE REQUIREMENTS

    · Past experience in lifeguarding, swim instruction and/or water safety a plus.

    · Passion for the water and working with children.

    · Fun, upbeat professional demeanor, and appearance when working with clients.

    · Knowledge of general safety rules and precautions related to a swimming pool environment.

    · Professional demeanor

    · Ability to work in a positive way with a wide range of students with special needs and

    ages.

    · Appropriate and upbeat communication skills with both children and adults.

    · Ability to perform the work schedule duties including lifting, loading, and unloading, and ability maneuver up to 40 lbs.

    · Ability to work in and around swimming pools with exposure to chlorinated and chemically treated water.

    · Knowledge of methods of rescue, life saving techniques, artificial respiration, and first aid a plus.

    · Preferred American Red Cross certifications but will pay to certify and train:

    o Lifeguard Training/Certification Red Cross

    o WSI (Water Safety Instructor)

    o CPR for the Professional Rescuer

    Compensation: $20.00-$25.00 per hour depending on experience and certifications.
