Junior GIS Analyst Stillwater Sciences - Berkeley, CA 94705 $42,000 - $45,000 a year Stillwater Sciences seeks a Junior GIS Analyst to work in our Berkeley office and provide support to innovative river restoration and watershed analysis projects throughout the western U.S. The Junior GIS Analyst will: * Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of geomorphologists, biologists, and other professional staff. * Provide a wide range of customized cartographic support, including maps for project reports, professional presentations, web pages, field efforts, poster presentations, and other needs. * Perform basic GIS spatial analysis tasks related to cartographic production. * Create/maintain metadata documentation, and carry out basic data management practices. * Periodically perform field work, data entry, writing, or other project-related tasks. Qualified applicants should possess: * Bachelors degree in Geography, Natural Resources, or Environmental Science with a focus on GIS, Cartography and Physical Geography and at least 2 years of work experience in environmental field. Experience or coursework in physical or biological sciences required. * Some experience in web mapping and programming. * Fundamental knowledge and skills in digital cartography and geographic visualization, with a thorough understanding of geographic projections and coordinate systems. * Experience with ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop software (knowledge of Spatial Analyst and/or 3D Analyst extension is a plus) and a solid understanding of spatial data manipulation and formats (shapefiles, arcinfo coverages, geodatabases, kml/kmz, etc). * Ability to perform basic geoprocessing and spatial analysis tasks, including data acquisition, data generation, georeferencing, and simple data classification. * Knowledge of basic principles of graphic design, and experience working with Adobe graphic software (PS, AI, Acrobat, InDesign) and similar open source alternatives. * Proven ability to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment as part of a multidisciplinary team. * Strong work ethic, team player with a high commitment to quality and attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
