Job Description
The Stock Preparation & Materials Handling Manager is responsible for leadership of the Stock Preparation, Materials Handling areas. Incumbent will provide daily and long-term focus to continuously improve the safety, quality, productivity, and reliability of these areas, as well as assure effective planning, development, and control of all related manufacturing processes.
** Duties & Responsibilities**
- Promote safety, productivity, quality, cost, training, environmental and housekeeping performance of your crews that results in the success of our business.
- Establish and enforce standards of safety and housekeeping in all areas within the department.
- Investigate safety incidents and complete appropriate follow-up tasks.
- Supervise crews across area of responsibility. This includes 23 Production employees and 1 Process Engineer.
- Plan, Do, Check, Act that systems are being followed for safety, quality, productivity, etc. and coach as needed for improvement.
- Effectively interact with other areas of the operation on a routine basis, including maintenance, engineering, quality, paper machines, purchasing, etc.
- Conduct annual performance reviews with all department team members. Administer mid-year performance reviews with team members when needed.
- Conduct new and probationary employee evaluations serving as the gatekeeper for excellent employees to remain at the Stevens Point mill.
- Administer the labor agreement, policies, and work rules with the crews.
- Ensure that effective and efficient training and skill verification utilizing the OJT process is taking place and is documented in appropriate systems.
- Update training documents, SOPs, Reference Documents, etc. in the document management system through management of change.
- Work with mill scheduler/training coordinator to get training resources where they are needed.
- Plan and execute efficient downtimes and outages in the Stock Preparation Department.
- Develop and manage the Stock Preparation and Material Handling budgets. Ensure all department costs are prioritized.
- Coordinate coverage for last minute vacancies.
- Develop, recommend, and initiate long-range plans, capital expenditures, and other managerial programs to support the Stevens Point Mill.
- Lead the resolution of operational issues and implementation of corrective actions to eliminate possible reoccurrence.
- Optimization and improvement of the processes and systems within the Stock Prep areas. This will include coordinating trials, evaluation of collected data, development of recommendations, and implementation of approved changes throughout the department and supporting operational areas.
- Effectively use and support mill systems such as work notifications, shift log books and computerized data management systems such as Aspentech data historian and KVA centerlining.
- Develop network of contacts to assist in improving performance, resolving problems, gaining best practice compliance, etc.
- Monitor incoming railcar pipeline, ensure that adequate pulp is in route to the mill.
- Give direction to purchasing to help execute ordering pulp and cull from outside warehouses.
- Serve as the operational lead on capital projects within Stock Prep.
- Effectively manage the Paper Business Unit tow motor fleet.
- Work with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator to prioritize and execute maintenance work in Stock Prep.
- Support and monitor ODR processes and ensure routes are being completed.
- Become a trained Rail inspector through an FRA training class.
