    Job Description

    Summary:

    The role of the Stockroom, Shipping & Receiving Associate is to handle all duties relating to shipments in/out, control/track/adjust items taken from stock, and conduct annual rotating stock counts to verify quantity control.

    Responsibilities:

    • Examine shipment contents and compare them with records such as manifest, invoices, orders, or delivery notices to verify accuracy
    • Weigh, measure, pack, seal, label, prepare, and construct shipping containers, and transport small and large items to the dock for pick up, using hand tools, power tools, hand-trucks, dollies, and shipping software
    • Record all shipping and receiving data such as weight, charges, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes (manually, computer, camera, etc.)
    • Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, or other labeling equipment
    • Distribute and maintain storage for items to be stocked on shelves, in bins, and shop handstock
    • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors
    • Prepare and maintain records and reports for the validity of items to be kept in stock, or to be removed, and report findings
    • Keeping shipping/receiving clean, maintaining shipping supplies, and replenishing when necessary
    • Notify the safety team if a new safety data sheet needs to be added to the records, according to the OSHA requirements
    • Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to the supervisor
    • Assist with import needs to ensure customs clearance
    • Promote customer focus

    This is a full-time (non-exempt) position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm and 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High School Graduate or GED with at least 2 years of experience in warehouse shipping, receiving, inventory, and customer service preferred.
    • Solid understanding of import and export laws, regulations, and documentation.
    • Ability to understand basic technical context, shipping documents, orders, etc.
    • Working knowledge of hand tools and small equipment
    • Ability to climb ladders, load and unload or stack items, construct large wood shipping containers, and pallets
    • Proficiency with computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
    • Good arithmetic and deductive skills

    Competencies:

    • Excellent communication skills, team player
    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to move several thousand pounds using equipment
    • Clean DMV record and valid CT driver's license
    • Self-motivated and can work unsupervised
    • Ability to effectively respond to emergencies
    • Identify and resolve problems, demonstrate persistence, and overcome obstacles
    • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
    • Gather and analyze information skillfully
    • Strong decision-making skills and able to develop alternative solutions

    Non-exempt position – Non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay at 1.5 times the calculated hourly rate for time worked more than 40 hours per week.

    Computer and Language skills:

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should know about UPS or other shipping software, MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and ERP system usage is a plus. Comfortable using computer applications to maintain large amounts of information, input/retrieve data, and create reports to communicate the information.
    • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
    • Ability to write routine correspondence and emails.
