    POSITION TITLE:         Hair and Makeup Stylist - Temp

    FLSA STATUS:                          Non - Exempt – Hourly

    REPORTS TO:                           Studio Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Hair and Makeup Stylist is responsible for assisting photographers by preparing models to style guide standards for the days designated photoshoots. The Hair and Makeup Stylist will ensure that all beauty requirements are consistently being met throughout the day and over the life of the projects. The Hair and Makeup Stylist will present seasonal recommendation updates in line with style and trend changes in line with the client's specifications.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    • Prepares and maintains hair and makeup for the model to the photoshoot or style guide of the client.
    • Captures the beauty intent of the photographer, and ensures we are maintaining a fast pace within our quality standards.
    • Ensures smooth and quick transitions between articles being shot (touch ups
    • Maintains a consistent quality standard and remain fully engaged (attention to detail, following beauty standards, predictive improvement) on repetitive projects.

    POSITION DUTIES

    • Styles various types, textures, and lengths of hair.  Able to trim or shave hair as needed.
    • Demonstrates ability to apply and maintain makeup on various skin types and colors throughout the photoshoot.  This includes covering blemishes, tattoos, and bruises.
    • Creates a comfortable environment with the models and stylists to allow the model to be primed in a manner that constantly improves the quality and speed of the shoot. 
    • Creates a rapport with photographers and stylists to understand pose requirements, transitions, and a natural presentation.
    • Responsible for the timely completion and accuracy of project job forms throughout the lifecycle of the job. (i.e.: production calendar, daily summary, expense sheets, time tracking, and mileage).
    • Creates written documentation, including visual references if necessary, on how specific hair and makeup is done so it can be included in client standards such as style guides.  In addition, be able to train fellow team members to those specific standards.
    • Contributes to improvements in project Pre-Production meetings and Post-mortem that relate to hair and makeup. Including completion and execution of action items assigned to the hair and makeup artist for the team's success from those meetings in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for the stock inventory, organization, and cleanliness of the hair and makeup station and on-set zone.  This includes managing the repair and purchase of the tools of the trade.
    • Assists in product preparation and assists the Stylist and Merchandise team during hours and days when a model is not on set.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Hair and Makeup Stylist provides general supervision of assigning work to contract/freelancer's hair and makeup stylist department(s) and positions. Schedules and recruits temporary staff as needed, this may include completion of staffing paperwork and timesheets. The Hair and Makeup Stylist will provide quality control for all contract/freelance Hair and Makeup stylists.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Candidates should be trained at a professional academy.
    • 2 years of experience working on a photography set or in a salon as a Hair and Makeup artist.
    • Experience styling in a high-volume, fashion-driven environment.
    • Well-rounded knowledge of beauty products for men and women, as well as skill in adapting to different skin types and shades.
    • Knowledge of digital commercial photography workflow process.
    • Creative agency experience or content production experience is desired. 
    • Flexible schedule – ability to accommodate long shoot days, early prep shots, and accommodate client schedules as needed.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring seamless execution through stellar organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong attention to details with the ability to focus on a repetitive task and consistently accurate entry of data.
    • Solves non-routine problems in collaboration with his or her manager; takes initiative to modify procedures and processes as appropriate and makes contributions that impact work team results.
    • Demonstrated planning skills and the ability to prioritize using information around due dates, clients, internal resource skill sets and when to escalate for assistance and awareness. 
    • Ability to work both independently and within a changing team.
    • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules. 
    • Is respectful and courteous when interacting with others, a calm and collaborative demeanor is expected when working through conflict.
    • Entry-level skill in Microsoft Office software programs, specifically, Word and Excel.  Within Excel, the candidate should be able at a minimum to execute a search, sort a list by applying multiple filters.
    • Must have proficient basic math skills and the ability to read, write, and speak English.

    • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing a maximum of 50 lbs.
