General Purpose
The Streets Worker I performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and labor duties in the Streets Department.
Reporting Relationships
Supervision Received: The Streets Worker I receives close supervision from the Streets Superintendent.
Supervision Exercised: N/A
Essential Functions
- Assists in maintaining and repairing streets including:
- Patching
- Pothole repairs
- Painting and striping.
- Assists with concrete replacement or repairing including:
- Sidewalks
- Curbs and gutters
- Pathways and trails.
- Installation and repairs of street signs.
- Installation, removal, repairing and maintaining of streetlights.
- Maintenance of Stormwater systems and other public facilities, on City Property and Right-of-way.
- Performs litter and weed removal and control.
- Tree removal and trimming.
- Performs general labor duties as assigned.
- Loads and unloads trucks, moves equipment.
- Performs routine Stormwater maintenance including:
- Dams
- Ditches
- Retention & detention ponds
- Custodial duties as assigned.
- Receives training on and may operate dump trucks, and other light equipment such as a Skid Steer, Striper, Compactor etc.
- Performs a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair duties.
- Checks and services assigned equipment as directed.
- Reports mechanical problems.
- After six (6) months of employment, must be able to perform inspections on job related equipment prior to operation.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Portrays a positive public image and works with the public and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- After six (6) months employment, will participate in the on-call rotation.
- Assists other departments as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent, and
- Experience with operation of light equipment, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Some knowledge of routine road repair and maintenance functions and stormwater collection system maintenance work.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate light equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Special Qualifications (Licenses, Certifications, etc.)
Within One (1) year, must obtain:
- Utah CDL
- First Aid
- CPR
- AED
- Flagger Certification
- Traffic Control Technician
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position works in variable weather and traffic conditions and performs light and heavy labor. Tasks regularly involve working in traffic with the use of safety equipment. Tasks regularly include walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, climbing and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are necessary for performing most essential duties. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
