  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Responsibilities:

    The Structural Designer will be responsible for producing structural engineering designs and modifications by identifying project objectives and issues; researching and developing structural engineering techniques and approaches; verifying and validating designs.

    In particular, the duties will encompass the following:

    1. Complete feasibility studies by studying project concepts, objectives, priorities, and requirements; conduct site investigations; identify and establish performance standards;

    2. Organize structural engineering design project by identifying short-term and long-range issues; preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources;

    3. Develop structural design plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying structural engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria; performing design calculations relating to foundations and structures, loading, structural response, and connection design; preparing drawings; collaborating with related engineering design teams; evaluating structural materials and suppliers; identifying and resolving design integration issues; determining and establishing design specifications.

    4. Prepare and/or review structural related specification sections;

    5. Verify and support construction by performing field visits; resolving construction problems related to structural design; coordinating and conferring with construction and production contractors;

    6. Comply with codes and regulations by applying and enforcing adherence to regulations and testing requirements;

    7. Maintain engineering design team accomplishments by coordinating actions; obtaining expert input; reviewing open issues and action items; contributing information and structural engineering analysis to team meetings and reports; guiding structural engineering technicians; and

    8. Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing structural engineering data and trends.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    Employer requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and two years of experience working with AutoCAD.

    In addition, the employer requires the following:

    1. Demonstrated ability working with design engineering gained through two years of work experience;

    2. Demonstrated knowledge of construction materials and building assemblies gained through two years of work experience;

    3. Demonstrated knowledge of building technology and structural design gained through two years of work experience; and

    4. Demonstrated ability preparing shop drawings and calculation packages gained through two years of work experience.

    Additional Information

    All years of experience may be gained concurrently.

    Telecommuting is an option, but the individual must live in the Boston, MA region, as four days of in-office presence per week is required.

    Salary Range: $92,893 - $102,093
