Structural Engineer (Remote)
United States | Direct Hire | $70,000-$85,000 + Commission | Fully Remote
The Structural Engineer supports a wide variety of structural and facility-related projects, ranging from modifications to existing buildings to the design of entirely new structures. This role works alongside other engineers on larger efforts and partners directly with a 3D CAD technician on smaller assignments. The engineer develops project concepts, determines structural approaches, and clearly communicates design intent for accurate drafting and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Design Coordination & Documentation
- Provide clear direction, sketches, and design requirements to CAD technicians to support the development of 3D models and project drawings.
- Produce accurate drawings, files, engineered details, and project documentation.
- Prepare project notes, preliminary layouts, and final design plans based on field data and engineering calculations.
- Review and refine design information to maintain alignment with internal and industry standards.
Technical Support & Collaboration
- Utilize engineering and drafting tools such as Mathcad, RISA-3D, CFS, SDS/2, Autodesk Revit, and AutoCAD or similar platforms.
- Coordinate drafting work across multiple projects, ensuring consistency and communication among team members.
- Participate in design reviews, offering input that supports constructability, clarity, and efficiency.
- Foster strong communication with internal teams and external partners to maintain project alignment and smooth handoffs.
Quality & Process Improvement
- Assist in maintaining and updating drafting standards to reflect best practices in engineering documentation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows or improve engineering processes.
- Take on additional assignments or responsibilities that align with individual strengths or project needs.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agricultural Engineering (structural emphasis), Architectural Engineering (structural emphasis), Civil Engineering (structural emphasis), or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- Experience with Autodesk products such as AutoCAD or Revit.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, MathCAD, and 3D CAD modeling.
- Ability to interpret structural construction drawings.
- Field inspection experience and a construction background are beneficial.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of engineering and drafting software tools.
- Ability to create and interpret detailed drawings, plans, and technical documents.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate work across teams.
Equipment Requirements
- Ability to use modern engineering and drafting software.
- Capability to participate in video conferences, share screens, and communicate design intent effectively.
- Use of measurement tools such as levels, tape measures, angle finders, and laser-level equipment.
- Remote employees must maintain a dedicated home office.
