Scientific Software Engineering Intern SAN DIEGO Position Title: Scientific Software Engineering Intern Location: San Diego, CA Description: Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SI) is seeking a Scientific Software Engineering Intern for our San Diego, CA office. The core work for this position will be in nuclear fuel performance modeling. Applicants should be at the junior/senior level working towards a Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Nuclear Engineering (with an emphasis in programming), or similar discipline. Background, knowledge, and/or experience in nuclear, materials, or other applicable engineering disciplines would be preferred. Technical writing and communications skills will also be important. Preferably, the candidate will have some experience performing scientific literature search and data extraction. Required Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have an understanding and some experience with the following software engineering concepts and strategies: Developing Unit Tests for existing code Using Test Driven Development for implementation of new features Techniques for code refactoring, i.e. extract method, extract interface, etc. Design techniques for decoupled, testable software, i.e. dependency injection, polymorphism, functional programming, etc. Parallel execution design techniques, i.e. locking, semaphores, etc. Software development for engineering or scientific applications preferred Desired Skills/Qualifications: Experience with the following programming languages and tools preferred: Fortran Ruby Rake Git Linux Lyx/LaTeX Microsoft Excel (or other spreadsheet software) Notice: Certain positions at SI may require access to information and technology which is subject to the export control regulations of the United States.
