Structural Steel Layout Fitter / Welder
Company: Paradigm Ironworks (DBA Alderette Designs, Inc.) Location: Riverside, CA Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Pay: $25–$35/hr DOE Benefits: Medical + 401(k) match: 100% on first 2% + 50% up to 5% + PTO/sick time per policy
Role Summary
Paradigm Ironworks is looking for an experienced Structural Steel Layout Fitter / Welder to join our Riverside fabrication shop.
This is a hands-on shop position for someone who can read structural steel shop drawings, accurately lay out and fit steel, and weld/fabricate assemblies with minimal supervision.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of accuracy, and can help us keep quality work moving through the shop.
Must-Haves
Structural steel fabrication and layout experience
Ability to confidently read and interpret structural steel shop drawings
Ability to independently lay out centerlines, hole patterns, connections, squareness/diagonals, and handed parts
Strong measuring, fitting, and fit-up skills
Structural steel welding experience
Current AWS welding certification(s)
Ability to understand weld symbols and connection details
Strong attention to quality and accuracy
Reliable attendance and professional attitude
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Core Responsibilities
Layout, fit, weld, and fabricate structural steel assemblies
Work with beams, columns, HSS, channel, angle, plate, embeds, base plates, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous steel
Read shop drawings and determine dimensions, orientation, connection locations, and fabrication requirements
Mark, measure, square, fit, and verify parts before welding
Perform structural welding in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements
Verify dimensions, diagonals, hole locations, handed parts, and overall fit-up
Identify drawing conflicts, missing information, or fabrication issues before material is cut or welded
Perform self-checks before completed work moves to QC
Maintain proper piece identification and material organization
Use common fabrication equipment including saws, mag drills, ironworkers, torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and related shop tools
Communicate problems or questions early so they can be resolved before creating rework
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Take ownership of assigned work and follow it through to completion
Certifications & Experience
Current AWS welding certification(s) required
L.A. City welding certification is a strong plus
Structural steel shop fabrication experience strongly preferred
Layout and fitting experience strongly preferred
Experience with structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication preferred
