Teacher Job Description
Position: Student Support Center Teacher
Reports to: Director of The Bridge and Student Support
The Christ School is looking for a dynamic educator to serve as a small group teacher. The duties and responsibilities of the small group teacher involve instruction directly related to students with dyslexia and related learning differences
Qualifications
● Evidence and articulate a faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior ● Bachelor’s degree or higher in education from an accredited college/university ● Experience with and knowledge of dyslexia and other language-based learning
differences and with the Orton-Gillingham approach and/or related remediation approaches is preferred
● Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
● Superior planning, organization, and time management skills
● Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in planning and delivery of instruction
The Bridge/Student Support Teacher will:
● Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, families, and the Assistant Director of Student Support to ensure cohesive and comprehensive student support. ● Plan and implement instructional strategies, activities, materials, and technology grounded in an understanding of the dyslexic learner, the Orton-Gillingham approach, and individualized student needs.
● Prepare and deliver middle school English Language Arts lessons aligned with grade-level standards, ensuring accessibility while maintaining academic rigor. ● Teach an Academic Strategies course focused on strengthening reading comprehension, fluency, morphology, study skills, and executive functioning skills. ● Provide push-in support within traditional middle school classrooms to assist students in implementing accommodations and accessing grade-level curriculum. ● Observe and evaluate student performance and developmental progress to inform instruction.
● Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor, document, and analyze student progress; identify strengths and areas of need; and design targeted instruction
to promote measurable growth.
● Maintain Associate Level membership with the Orton-Gillingham Academy, demonstrating commitment to professional growth and evidence-based literacy instruction.
● Establish and sustain clear, consistent communication with parents regarding academic progress, goals, and support strategies.
