We provide comprehensive care through PHP, IOP, and OP levels of service, supporting individuals on their path to healing and restoration.     Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor (ADT, CAC, or higher) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of substance use and co-occurring disorders and be committed to helping clients rebuild their lives through supportive and ethical care.

    Counselors at Better Path provide group, individual, and family counseling, develop treatment plans, complete ASAM assessments, and maintain documentation in accordance with COMAR and JCO regulations. You’ll work collaboratively with our clinical and support teams to help clients achieve long-term stability and recovery.

    Key Responsibilities

    Maintain an assigned caseload and complete psychosocial assessments and interpretive summaries within 5 days of admission.

    Develop individualized treatment plans within 30 days and complete updates every 30 days thereafter.

    Facilitate daily group sessions and maintain accurate group notes.

    Provide individual counseling and coordinate care in accordance with treatment goals.

    Prepare discharge and aftercare plans, ensuring continuity of care and client follow-up.

    Maintain compliance with COMAR, JCO, and ethical standards at all times.

    Qualifications

    Active Maryland certification or license: ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGPC, LCPC, LGADC, LCADC, LGSW, or LCSW-C (Required)

    Experience in substance use and/or mental health counseling preferred.

    Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.

    Ability to maintain professionalism, empathy, and positive energy.

    Must align with our holistic approach to treatment and be able to leave outside stressors at the door—our clients are hurting and deserve compassion, understanding, and presence.
