    Position Summary

    The Substation Engineering Manager is a senior department leader responsible for overseeing, leading, and growing a multidisciplinary substation engineering team, including engineers, designers, and 3D modelers. This role combines operational leadership, technical expertise, business development, and mentorship to ensure the successful delivery of high-voltage substation projects while supporting strategic growth across multiple offices. The position plays a critical role in advancing engineering excellence, developing talent, strengthening client relationships, and supporting the transition to cleaner, smarter energy solutions.

    Job Function

    • Develop and execute strategic plans aligned with national and regional growth objectives
    • Oversee daily operations of the Substation Department with a strong focus on high-voltage substation engineering and design
    • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality engineering projects
    • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and best practices
    • Monitor, track, and report departmental performance metrics
    • Manage resources across investor-owned utility and private developer projects
    • Maintain visibility into the sales pipeline and project backlog
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the power delivery market
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners
    • Lead proposal development and support contract negotiations
    • Represent the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and networking events
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and project teams
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development
    • Lead complex technical projects and provide expert guidance on quality and client standards
    • Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices and share knowledge across the team
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards across all projects

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in high-voltage substation engineering and design
    • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
    • Experience supporting both investor-owned utility and private development projects

    Qualifications

    • Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one state, with the ability to obtain additional licensure as needed
    • Strong operational leadership and business development experience within the A/E industry
    • In-depth knowledge of applicable engineering standards and regulations, including IEEE, NESC, and NEC
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent
    • Demonstrated ability to create, implement, and execute strategic growth plans across multiple offices
