    Job Description

    If you have experience with underwriting mortgage loans and enjoy working in a service-oriented environment, we have a great position for you. We are seeking a Mortgage Loan Underwriter to assist in providing quality loans for our financial client by underwriting mortgage loans per product and investor guidelines and examining loan documentation for accuracy and completeness. The primary purpose of the Mortgage Loan Underwriter is to recommend approval of customer applications for residential loans or extensions of real estate loan lines of credit. They must adhere to fraud detection techniques and ensure that HMDA and compliance procedures are followed. This is a permanent, direct hire opening and would work from home. (remotely)

    Job Duties

    • Receives loan files purchased and originated by the financial institution and reviews files for all necessary forms and information according to underwriting guidelines
    • Analyzes applicant's financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine loan feasibility.
    • Submits application to credit analyst for verification and recommendation
    • Communicates status and closely guides customers with regards to clarifications needed
    • Communicates with Loan Officers and Processors per service standards, answering underwriting questions and loan product questions
    • Communicates with outside mortgage firms, mortgage loan officers, and customers to underwrite files properly
    • Assists sales personnel with loan scenarios: including income, assets, credit, and appraisal requirements per guidelines
    • Keeps up-to-date with underwriting practices and assists in updating underwriting policies
    • Analyzes potential loan markets to develop loan prospects
    • Responsible for audits of loan files prior to and after funding; responds to internal and external audits in a timely manner
    • Assists loan servicing department in maintenance of loan files, including payoffs, changes of ownership, and transfers
    • Interfaces with the accounting department in obtaining funding for loan files
    • Prepares reports as requested regarding loan file activity

    Job Qualifications

    • 5+ years' experience in the mortgage banking industry; practical experience in mortgage underwriting and customer service
    • Knowledge of lending and underwriting policies and procedures, including knowledge of varied guidelines including conventional, FHA, and VA
    • Fluent knowledge of DU & LP
    • Working knowledge of all federal and state regulations regarding lending and related departments
    • Working knowledge of current lending rates for various loan options
    • Detail oriented and possesses critical analytical thinking and mathematical skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability \to present responses in a positive manner to protect client relationships
    • Time management skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
    • Team player with a positive attitude and willing to work well with others
    • Microsoft Office suite experience
