Summer Camp Teacher
Job Summary:
Support the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum (SALMM) Interpretive Department in implementing the SALMM Mission. Further assist SALMM in community engagement initiatives through summer camp programming.
Major Responsibilities:
Lead and conduct daily activities provided by education manager.
Carry out and adapt pre-prepared lesson plans, curricula, presentations, and programs to meet the needs of diverse campers.
Maintain organization of materials and supplies, transitioning supplies as needed to meet the material needs for various weeks and themes.
Assist in weekly breakdown/setup of camp room, and daily transitions.
Provide and supports strong classroom management skills to facilitate positive group interactions.
Attend required training session(s) and full six weeks of Summer Camp programming.
Lead individual and group sessions with support of co-teacher.
Supervise campers during weekly field trips, indoor activities, and outdoor play.
Oversee Junior Counselors and their role in supporting the Summer Camp program in conjunction with Education Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of teaching and early childhood education required. Teacher certification strongly preferred. Ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment. Excellent communication skills required.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:
The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job. Must be able to climb the lighthouse tower and perform required duties in all types of weather. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Candidates must be available all six weeks of Summer Camp program.
