    Location: Blackstone Bicycle Works (BBW) – Chicago, IL Position Type: Temporary Full-Time Compensation: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour (based on experience). Dates of employment are between June 8th to August 14th 2026.

    About the Role

    Working directly alongside the two BBW Program Managers, the Summer Camp Youth Program Instructor serves as a vital partner in executing our high-impact summer camp sessions. This role is designed for a collaborative leader who can seamlessly assist leadership in mentoring youth ages 14–18, delivering technical instruction, ensuring the smooth daily operation of our "Wrench & Ride" curriculum. You won't just be teaching; you'll be an integral part of the team shaping the camp experience.

    Essential Functions

    Program Partnership: Support Program Managers in coordinating the youth program; help maintain a safe, positive, and organized learning environment at BBW.

    Instructional Support: Co-lead daily youth bike repair instruction and engage with youth across all areas of the program, from the shop floor to the classroom.

    Activity Facilitation: Assist in coordinating auxiliary services, including field trips, STEAM programming, career exploration, and snack/meal programs.

    Data & Logistics: Facilitate tracking of program documentation (participation rosters, youth work logs, skill sheets, the Apron System, and activity summaries).

    Stewardship: Assist in maintaining program spaces, equipment, and supplies; engage youth in shop maintenance and act as an excellent steward of BBW resources.

    Daily Operations: Manage daily sign-in and sign-out procedures and assist Program Managers with general shop management as needed.

    Program documentation, through photography, videography, and writing.

    Qualifications

    Youth Experience: 1-2 years of experience working with youth (ages 14–18) in a camp, after-school, or educational setting.

    Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in basic bicycle maintenance or the willingness to learn (flat fixes, brake adjustments, chain cleaning) and a willingness to learn BBW-specific methods.

    Team Player: Ability to take direction from Program Managers while also taking initiative to lead small groups independently.

    Physical Stamina: Ability to be on your feet for long periods, lead group bike rides in summer weather, and lift up to 40 lbs.

    Compliance: Must pass a standard background check; CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.

    High Energy + Creativity: come up with interesting/creative content to engage participants.
