Woodside Priory School seeks a dynamic English / ESL Instructor for its Summer English Language Institute (ELI), a four-week program serving international students entering Grades 6–9.
The successful candidate will design and deliver curriculum and class sessions that cultivate Priory’s Benedictine values and core learning competencies: critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and resilience.
The ELI is intentionally designed as a small, highly personalized program with approximately 25 students total , allowing for meaningful relationships, individualized feedback, and a high level of academic engagement. Students learn in small, level-based classes (8–12 students) and participate in an immersive experience that integrates academic English development with cultural exploration and experiential learning across Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.

** Duties and Responsibilities**
- Design and teach daily English language classes focused on reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and speaking
- Implement and augment our curriculum which was built using a backward planning model , aligning instruction with clear learning goals
- Design and implement authentic assessments that allow students to demonstrate language proficiency and academic skills
- Provide actionable, individualized feedback on student work, particularly writing, using clear and consistent criteria
- Deliver student-centered instruction that scaffolds learning and promotes active engagement
- Differentiate instruction to support students of diverse proficiency levels, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles
- Foster a classroom culture that encourages confidence, risk-taking, and spoken communication
- Integrate real-world themes (e.g., innovation, California culture, environmental exploration) into language learning
- Collaborate with colleagues and program leadership to ensure coherence across curriculum and student experience
- Partner with residential staff to support student well-being and a positive community environment
- Participate in program activities, excursions, and community events as appropriate
- Contribute to a professional culture grounded in reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Use appropriate technology tools to enhance teaching and learning
** Qualifications**
Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Experience working with middle school or early high school students
- Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate international learners
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Preferred
- Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- TESOL, CELTA, or equivalent certification
- Experience teaching Academic English / English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
- Experience preparing students for U.S. academic environments
- Experience designing interactive, discussion-based curriculum
