POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title of Position: Summer Camp Counselor
Classification: Non-exempt, Part-Time, Seasonal
Salary: $20-25/hour
General Purpose of Position
The Summer Camp Counselor is the primary supervisor for children ages 5-10 during Breck Create’s
Summer Art Camps. They are responsible for ensuring each camper’s safety and engagement throughout the day, providing support for instructors during art classes and overseeing campers during drop-off, pickup, and lunch time. The Summer Camp Counselor is also expected to meet most service and informational needs of parents and other patrons in a knowledgeable and patron-focused manner. This is a position with significant childcare and customer service impact. This position reports to the Arts Education Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
- Supervise up to 10 campers ages 5-10 each day. Take campers to classes on the Arts District Campus and to drop-off/pickup locations, facilitate meals and restroom breaks, and assist campers during art classes. Foster a welcoming and inspiring educational environment by actively engaging campers during and outside of classes.
- Receive campers and parents during drop-off and pickup. Check in enrolled campers and (on the first day of camp only), register walk-ins using Audience View. Prepare age-appropriate activities for campers during drop-off, pickup, and lunchtime. Submit material requests to Programs Coordinator 2 weeks in advance.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities. Complete accident/incident reports as needed. Provide basic first aid for cuts, scrapes, etc.
- Interact with campers, parents, and instructors in an open and professional manner, utilizing excellent customer service standards, including effectively resolving conflicts or disputes.
- Support instructors in implementation of their arts curriculum (e.g., setup/clean up, distribution of supplies, redirecting youth, assisting with requests for help).
- Provide feedback to Director of Programs + Special Projects on how to streamline logistics and operational tasks of Summer Art Camps.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and interest in arts/activities presented.
- One or more years of experience working with school-age children.
- CPR Certification
- One (1) year of experience in a customer service position; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
