  • Responsibilities

    Prepare parts surfaces for the application of paints and primer by cleaning, masking, plugging, etc. Apply protective or decorative material such as paint, glaze, epoxy, solvent, cleaner, or lacquer utilizing various material handling equipment, spray paint equipment, electrostatic equipment, and hand tools. Work independently or with minimal direction from Supervisor.

    • Work from and follow process specifications, work orders, travelers, station paperwork, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, schedules, Aircraft Production Orders, schematics, layout & modifications sheets, engineering orders, Piper Production Spec (PPS), Piper Material Spec (PMS), Material Review Board, and verbal/written instruction.
    • Determine paint specification from bill of material and compare to posted color codes.
    • Wash parts and remove rust if necessary.
    • Mask or plug areas that are not to be coated.
    • On cosmetic repairs, fill cavities and dents with approved material to attain smooth surface.
    • Apply epoxy primer to surfaces as specified.
    • Assure the material is prepared to the proper consistency for application.
    • Clean spraying equipment and brushes with approved solvent.
    • Maintain required reports, files, and records.
    • Requires the use of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
    • Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor.
    • Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Required Experience

    High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), 3 - 12 months of related experience and training / equivalent combination of education and experience.
