    Job Description

    The Plant Project Engineer supports Plant Management, developing detailed plans and engineering services to provide for the design, acquisition and installation of equipment and facilities required for the efficient operation of the plant's production and administrative operations. Job responsibilities will include:

    • Recommending strategies to achieve lower cost, faster production rates, and lower process variability in manufacturing operations.
    • Managing special and major high-profile projects of a complex nature that may involve groups outside of the organization.
    • Preparing detailed engineering plans, designs, drawings, cost estimates, financial justification and schedules required for engineering and maintenance projects.
    • Maintaining engineering drawings and documentation for all equipment and manufacturing processes.
    • Determining detailed equipment and services required for engineering projects, preparing requests for bids, evaluating suppliers, preparing purchase requisitions, and supervising installation of new or modifications to existing facilities.
    • Researching new equipment and manufacturing processes to maintain and improve the company's competitive position.
    • Optimizing equipment to provide desired balance of cost, throughput, and variability.
    • Providing overall project management of engineering projects within assigned departments ensuring on-time completion within budget. Assisting in managing maintenance activities associated with projects.
    • Providing engineering support, advice and counsel to Maintenance, Production and R&D personnel to maintain equipment and facility operations. Recommend equipment designs, makes, models, methods of construction, and vendors to meet engineering project objectives.
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all equipment and processes within assigned departments, research and evaluate new equipment and processes, and make recommendations for installation of new facilities to increase production efficiency and/or improve product quality.
    • Provide advice to personnel engaged in product development activities regarding effective equipment designs and processes to meet objectives.
    • Monitor operating conditions and direct attention and actions to signal of non-random chance variation in the process. Recommends necessary changes for improvement.

    Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field;
    • Minimum of 8 - 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering environment as a Project / Mechanical Engineer;
    • Demonstrated Project Management skills, work scope development, and a knowledge of AutoCAD;
    • Specific and demonstrated experience heavy industrial manufacturing experience;
    • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and facilities;
    • Demonstrated experience in managing special projects with minimal guidance;
    • A knowledge of PLCs and 3-D modeling experience is a plus, as is experience in metal forming
