    SUMMARY

    The Women's Apparel Merchant will focus on managing and expanding the Women’s Apparel business with duties including competitive intelligence, assortment planning, product pricing, forecasting, and coordination with marketing. The Merchant will drive merchandise strategies in collaboration with the DMM to support sales and profits that meet or exceed financial plans for the Women’s Apparel business. The individual in this role will have strong cross-functional relationships with Product Development, Marketing, Retail and Online teams in order to drive strategic growth.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Achieve the sales and GM budget for Women’s Apparel through optimizing assortment, pricing, promotion and marketing of the assortment.
    • Identify product opportunities based on customer feedback, sales analyses, and industry trends. Rank new styles based on historical and current product performance.
    • Create seasonal assortment plans; support DMM in creating strategies for each channel
    • Responsibility for tactical management of women’s products, including forecasts, rebuy needs, vendor issues, deliveries, quality products, return rates, product placement, and photography needs
    • Analyzes business performance and provide analysis on a weekly basis. Understand product trends, historical data and departmental input at category/class level and makes recommendations for action.
    • Research competition for product trend, pricing and customer experience ideas.
    • Supports DMM in preparation and presentation of relevant data at selling meetings, hindsight meetings, team meetings and seasonal milestone meetings.
    • Build relationships with Product Development, Marketing, Inventory Control, Quality Control, Catalog Merchandise Managers, Online team, Call Center and Catalog Creative.
    • Represents the DMM in the corporate office when DMM is not present. Point person for assortment questions, Apparel item information, etc.
    • Be prepared at all times to update DMM and Senior Management on category performance, item performance, inventory challenges and vendor issues.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in related field required
    • Five plus years of retail merchandising/buying experience, or comparable merchandising and inventory planning experience required
    • Previous experience in a catalog environment preferred
    • One plus years management experience preferred
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
    • Must have strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented and remain focused in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
