    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Superintendent leads day-to-day field operations for civil construction projects with primary emphasis on roadway work, wet utilities, and dry utilities. This role is responsible for safe execution, quality control, production performance, and coordination across crews, inspectors, subcontractors, and project management. The Superintendent translates plans and specifications into executable work, drives schedule adherence, and ensures compliance with TxDOT, COSA, and project-specific requirements. This position directly supervises Foremen and crews and serves as the primary field authority for assigned projects.

    YOUR ROLE

    • Oversees daily construction activities for roadway, drainage, water, wastewater, and dry utility installations.
    • Interprets and enforces plans, specifications, and details related to grading, paving, curb, sidewalk, storm drain, water, sanitary sewer, duct banks, conduits, and related appurtenances.
    • Verifies layout, line, grade, elevations, and ADA compliance in coordination with Survey.
    • Plans and sequences work including excavation, trenching, paving, concrete placement, backfill, testing, and surface restoration.
    • Resolves field conflicts involving utilities, tolerances, drainage, access, and constructability within delegated authority.
    • Ensures QA/QC compliance including compaction, concrete finish, asphalt density, testing coordination, and final acceptance readiness.
    • Directs means and methods for complex or high-risk operations such as deep trenching, traffic phasing, live utility work, night work, and accelerated schedules.
    • Owns jobsite safety culture and enforces OSHA, COSA, TxDOT, and company safety standards.
    • Conducts regular safety walks and audits focused on trench safety, traffic control, equipment operation, confined space, and excavation practices.
    • Ensures all permits, inspections, and safety documentation are in place prior to work.
    • Partners with Safety on incident investigations, corrective actions, and targeted retraining.
    • Leads daily safety huddles and reinforces accountability at the Foreman and crew level.
    • Directly supervises Foremen and oversees multiple crews as assigned.
    • Sets daily and weekly production goals and adjusts manpower and equipment to protect schedule.
    • Coordinates heavy equipment utilization including graders, excavators, loaders, rollers, pavers, and support equipment.
    • Works with Fleet, Yard, and Procurement to ensure equipment readiness, material availability, and timely deliveries.
    • Monitors material usage, inventory, and staging to minimize downtime and waste.
    • Maintains accurate daily logs, quantities, redlines, production reports, and HCSS entries.
    • Participates in weekly planning, L10s, and coordination meetings.
    • Tracks progress against schedule and budget and communicates risks or constraints to Project Management and the General Superintendent.
    • Implements standard work, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Serves as the primary field contact for inspectors, agencies, and clients.
    • Coordinates inspections, testing, and approvals for roadway and utility scopes.
    • Attends preconstruction, progress, and final walkthrough meetings.
    • Ensures jobsite professionalism including signage, traffic control, housekeeping, and public interface.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    WHAT YOU BRING

    • 7–10+ years of progressive civil construction field experience, including Superintendent or senior Foreman leadership.
    • Strong technical expertise in roadway construction, wet utilities (water, sanitary sewer, storm drain), and dry utilities.
    • Proven knowledge of TxDOT and COSA specifications, ADA requirements, and civil QA/QC standards.
    • OSHA 30 preferred; excavation/trenching competent person preferred.
    • Proficiency with iPad-based field tools and HCSS for time, quantities, and documentation.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Valid driver’s license; ability to work nights or weekends as required by project phasing.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; construction management or related coursework preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This role is performed primarily in active construction environments and requires frequent walking, standing, and navigation of uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally climb, bend, and lift materials or tools up to 50 pounds. Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in high-noise environments is required. Daily use of PPE is mandatory. Exposure to weather, dust, traffic, and extended work hours is expected.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
