Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our premier, multi-specialty surgical center located in Downtown Chicago. In this role, you will support the safe and efficient delivery of cosmetic surgical procedures alongside a team of award-winning cosmetic and plastic surgeons. Your focus will be on maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical instruments, and assisting during procedures to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Surgical Preparation:
Set up sterile tables with necessary instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications according to each surgeon’s protocol.
Verify surgical instruments and supplies before and after procedures.
Intraoperative Support:
Maintain strict sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
Serve as the primary scrub tech, assisting the surgeon by passing instruments and anticipating surgical needs.
Operate and troubleshoot surgical equipment as needed.
Postoperative Duties:
Apply and manage surgical dressings under the direction of the surgeon.
Assist with patient care in the recovery room and support patient discharge as directed.
Properly handle and label specimens for laboratory processing.
Sterilization and Maintenance:
Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize instruments and surgical equipment following each procedure.
Ensure the operating room is properly cleaned and restocked between cases.
Minimum Qualifications:
Diploma from an accredited surgical technology program
Must have and maintain an active Illinois Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
Minimum one year of surgical experience in a surgical setting.
BLS/ACLS Certification is Required
Performance Requirements:
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures, particularly those relevant to plastic and cosmetic surgery.
Proficient in sterile technique and infection control protocols to ensure a safe surgical environment.
Prior experience in plastic or cosmetic surgery is highly desirable and considered a strong asset.
Demonstrated skill in the operation and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment, including autoclaves and specialized devices.
Strong organizational abilities, including effective time management, multitasking, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with the surgical team, staff, and patients.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support intraoperative decision-making and respond to unexpected challenges.
Proficient in the use of office and medical equipment, including computers, printers, and standard surgical support tools.
This is a physically active role that requires extended periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as this position involves frequent interaction with patients, surgeons, and clinical staff in a collaborative and patient-focused environment.
