The Surveyor is responsible for performing daily surveying activities in support of heavy civil construction projects. This role focuses on accurate data collection, layout, verification, and documentation to ensure construction activities align with project plans, specifications, and control. The Surveyor works closely with project teams to support safe, efficient, and accurate project execution in the field.
This position is hands‑on and field‑based.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform construction surveying tasks including layout, grade checking, quantity verification, and as‑built data collection
- Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical project control
- Conduct daily survey work for roads, bridges, utilities, earthwork, and structures
- Operate surveying equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors
- Verify dimensions, elevations, and alignments to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and survey control information
- Coordinate daily survey needs with superintendents, forepersons, and engineers
- Provide timely and accurate survey data to support construction scheduling and productivity
- Identify and communicate discrepancies or conflicts in plans or field conditions
- Support quantity tracking and verification as needed
- Maintain accurate survey notes, files, and electronic records
- Assist with preparation of as‑built documentation
- Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of survey data
- Follow established survey procedures and standards
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in surveying, preferably within heavy civil or infrastructure construction
- Strong working knowledge of construction surveying principles and practices
- Proficiency with GPS systems, robotic total stations, and survey data collection software
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or related field
- Experience with roadway, utility, bridge, or large earthwork projects
- Familiarity with common survey software platforms (e.g., Trimble, Leica, Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D)
- Progress toward licensure or certification (not required)
The hourly wage for this position is $39-46 depending on experience. We do also have a Senior Surveyor role available.
