    Job Description

    Symbotic is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our Hardware Product Engineering team.  In this role, you will lead a team of engineers and designers in developing state-of-the-art, large-scale capital equipment used in material handling automation.  You will also use your own experience and skills to complete design tasks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Allocate mechanical engineering and design team resources to efficiently execute projects in the areas of NPD, value engineering, and sustaining engineering
    • Act as a project leader or individual contributor on projects - leading the conception, analysis, prototyping, detailed design, and validation of complex electromechanical systems and structural assemblies
    • Communicate project status, chair design reviews, present to colleagues and product owners
    • Mentor staff and provide technical direction in the execution of engineering projects dealing with robotics, electromechanical assemblies, and mechanical structures
    • Develop and continuously improve mechanical engineering processes and best practices while ensuring adherence throughout the department
    • Identify organizational strengths and weaknesses and take proactive measures to ensure that the department is prepared for future growth.  This will include appropriate balancing of full-time and contract staffing.
    • Identify necessary training, develop mentoring relationships, and hire additional staff to ensure the future success of the organization
    • Work with and support cross-functional teams to ensure the successful launch of new features or products
    • Act as a technical expert when interfacing with customers and third parties
    • Manage critical vendor relationships involved in both the design as well as the manufacturing aspects of automation system delivery.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
    • Minimum of 10 years’ previous experience, 5 of which is in a management or team-lead role.
    • Industrial robotics, automation, and material handling experience is strongly preferred.
    • Experience coordinating contract or offshore resources.
    • Full proficiency with SolidWorks is required.
    • Experience with Six Sigma, value engineering, and DFM is a plus.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Desire to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment is essential.
