    Job Description

    PURPOSE

    Provide assistance to Environmental Synectics staff to acquire, receive, organize, and present environmental data. Assist with data entry, analysis and evaluation for project and program planning, design, implementation, and monitoring. Environmental data management is critical to providing managers and clients with accurate and accessible data and records for tracking and assessing progress on environmental programs, goals, plans, and actions. Effective data management is an essential part of any environmental project and can teach you valuable skills for your future endeavors in the environmental industry.

    We are looking for a candidate committed to collaborative work, with the ability to assist environmental staff on environmental projects that support the federal government.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    In current progress of a degree in the environmental sciences, data management, computer science, chemistry, geology, biology or a related discipline preferred.

    DUTIES

    The Data Analyst Intern’s responsibilities include interacting with internal technical staff to aggregate environmental data in support of federal program investigations and long term groundwater monitoring sampling events taking place across the country and the Pacific Rim. Responsibilities may include the following activities, which will be performed under the supervision of a senior data manager:

    • Load environmental data into SQL Server databases, such as lithology data, groundwater measurements, geographical survey information, environmental measurement parameters, and well construction information
    • Troubleshoot and document data issues (missing records, orphaned data, etc)
    • Assist in the identification, collection, and organization of environmental reports
    • Prepare other environmental data and documents, as needed
    • Work alongside internal technical staff to track and monitor field sampling events
    • Interns will be required to complete on-site training and work in Sacramento
    • Ability to work between 8-12 hours per week

     

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Working knowledge of current principles, techniques and terminology related to environmental studies
    • Ability to organize and interpret data, site development plans, survey data and maps, and technical reports
    • Ability to perform environmental data analysis and define environmental metrics, as required
    • Willingness to work as part of a team and excellent communication skills
    • Committed and highly oriented to detail
    • Efficient Microsoft Word and Excel experience

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience working with large environmental data sets
    • Microsoft Access experience
