Job Requisition : Systems Administrator
Position Objective :
Synergetics is seeking a dedicated Systems Administrator to join our team, providing full-service IT services to our clients through a blend of on-site and remote work arrangements. This role is essential for supporting the mission of the US Geological Survey (USGS) Geological Hazards Science Center (GHSC) in Golden, Colorado. The GHSC plays a crucial role in monitoring and reporting on geological hazards such as earthquakes, geomagnetism, and landslides, as well as conducting targeted research to understand these phenomena better.
The ideal candidate will be based in or willing to relocate to the Denver metropolitan area to facilitate daily commutes to our Golden facility. As a Systems Administrator, you will play a key role in administering the network and firewall, managing hardware and software, and contributing to the operation of the data center at the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC). Your work will involve assessing, designing, testing, administering, documenting, and improving the networking and security infrastructure. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring and managing the data centers utilized by the GHSC and NEIC, ensuring their continuous improvement and documentation.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Technical Support (Tier 1 &2):
- Provide both remote and on-site support for the organization's network infrastructure, including after-hours response.
- Identify and resolve network issues related to DNS, connectivity, and routing.
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment and cabling.
- Troubleshoot network-connected hardware and software for end-users.
- Diagnose and repair network equipment issues or perform upgrades as needed.
- Manage ticket tracking system for issue resolution.
2. Network Device and System Management :
- Monitor network devices for high availability and optimize their performance.
- Utilize monitoring and troubleshooting tools effectively.
- Document network device configurations and provide network design and capacity planning.
- Research network products and standards for procurement and development.
- Install and maintain network servers and operating systems.
- Manage network data backups, testing restoration processes regularly.
3. Firewall Management :
- Monitor firewalls to ensure high availability and diagnose throughput problems.
- Recommend and implement firewall maintenance and operation best practices.
4. Documentation and Compliance :
- Provide comprehensive documentation for firewall and network troubleshooting, maintenance, and operation.
- Work with the information security officer to enforce security policies and procedures.
5. Additional Responsibilities :
- Assist with other IT-related projects as assigned by the organization.
Qualifications :
- Proven experience as a Systems Administrator, with a strong background in network and firewall administration.
- Familiarity with the operational requirements of data centers and the specific challenges related to geological hazard monitoring environments is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams within Synergetics for problem-solving and development.
- Willingness to reside in or relocate to the Denver metropolitan area for daily commutes to the Golden facility.
