    Job Description

    The Syngenta Seeds Research and Development (R&D) IT team is looking for a creative and motivated Data Engineer Intern who is passionate about impacting the world and helping craft the next generation of digital solutions. As a Data Engineer Intern, you will utilize your skills and desire to learn as part of an engineering team that supports data scientists and decision makers in their data pipeline needs.   

    Our data engineers are key to developing and continuously improving Syngenta’s versatile data lake platform (DLP).  Our DLP allows our researchers to harness meaningful insights from internal and external scientific information for the purpose of improving crop quality and yield in the field.  Because of our DLP, Syngenta has delivered world class products and services to address farmers’ challenges.  

    ESTIMATED DURATION: May – August 2023 

    PREFERRED LOCATION: RTP, NC or Downers Grove, IL 

    YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 

    • Learn and use data technology stacks for data pipelines such as Kinesis (Kafka), Spark, SQL engines, Glue, time series databases, data virtualization and IoT 
    • Learn how to create, maintain, and enhance the data pipeline and our DLP 
    • Use enterprise commercial analytics systems such as Tableau, and Dataiku 
    • Partner with scientists from R&D to develop user stories and ensure there is a shared understanding of the required need 
    • Assemble sophisticated data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements 
    • Work as part of an agile team to help build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to deliver impactful insights for R&D researchers

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Computer Engineering or related field 
    • Some familiarity with SQL, structured and semi-structured data, Python, R or Tableau 
    • Some experience working with relational and non-relational databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Amazon DynamoDB, MongoDB, or other relevant platforms 
    • Experience with or proven ability to learn enterprise commercial analytics systems such as Tableau, and Dataiku 
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude
