To support that challenge, the North America Trait Introgression (NA TI) team is currently looking for a skilled individual to join our group of TI Pipeline and Applied Genetic Scientists, and help us accelerate the delivery of high-quality traited elite germplasm to the business, contributing to superior product performance and genetic gain. As an intern in High Throughput Trait Screening, you will interact with TI, Greenhouse Operations, and Breeding to develop a process to rapidly screen corn and soybean plants for genetically modified (GM) traits of interest.

Estimated Duration: May 2024 through August 2024

Preferred Location: Stanton, MN OR Malta, IL

What Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Management of soybean and corn plants in a greenhouse setting including: planting, identity management, plant health maintenance, and experimentation.
• Design and conduction of experiments to improve identification of trait-positive plants in early growth stages.
• Tissue sampling and sample preparation of plants for phenotype and/or genotype analysis.
• Interpretation and analysis of experiment results, including drawing conclusions on efficacy of experiments.
• Creation of formal standard operating procedures to define an optimal screening process.
• Active assistance with and participation in communication procedures to greenhouse operations teams, including the development of training materials.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a M.S. program in agronomy, horticulture, plant/molecular biology, genetics/genomics, or similar; OR
• Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in agronomy, horticulture, biology, genetics/genomics, or similar. Current Sophomore or Junior standing and proven experience is preferred
• Current student continuing education upon completion of internship term (internship term is May 2024 through August 2024)
• Knowledge of and experience with greenhouse activities; OR
• Knowledge of and experience with crop production/agronomy
• Fluent in English
• Ability to communicate clearly with both plant/biology scientists and breeders
• Eligibility to work in the US

What you might also contribute to the team:

• Familiarity with high throughput phenotyping
• Experience with agronomy and herbicide modes of action
• Familiarity with plant biology and/or plant breeding
• Familiarity with GM traits
