Position: Operations Planner

General Function
This position is Mission Essential. Employ communication, coordination, organizational and operational expertise to facilitate the development of operational plans and orders to support Major and Combat Command air component operations in homeland defense and Defense Support to Civil Authorities within the CONUS NORAD Region (CONR).
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
- Administer the AFNORTH and AFSPACE operations planning process in accordance with HAF, MAJCOM, and joint service, policies, directives, and procedures.
- Develop operation plans that are consistent with Air Force and joint service doctrine that fully exploit the United States Air Force (USAF) and joint services’ unique warfighting capabilities.
- Coordinate draft versions of plans between staff agencies to ensure a coherent planning effort to include AFNORT/A5 and the 601st AOC Strategy Divisions.
- Develop and coordinate concepts for inclusion into Air Force, joint services, or combined operations policies, ensuring operations policies are designed to maximize the effectiveness of air component operations in support of combatant commander’s missions; Coordinate operations policy actions to facilitate issue resolution and ensure timely completion.
- Draft Concept of Operations (CONOPS), warning orders, operations orders, execute orders and request for forces for the Director, Air, Space, and Information Operations.
- Draft operations annexes of CONR-1 AF (AFNORTH) and (AFSPACE) supplements to NORAD and USNORTHCOM conceptual and operations plan.
- Conduct mission analysis and course of action development, develop request for force with through analysis of mission requirements, higher headquarters guidance, plans and supporting data.
- Participate in the AFNORTH deliberate and crisis and action planning process, lead and participate in operations planning groups, and in the CONR-1 AF (AFNORTH) and (AFSPACE) contingency action team operations.
- Perform contingency Action Team (CAT) future operation lead planning duties as required for any contingency or exercise requiring a CAT.
- This may be a 24/7 resource during contingencies and shift work may be required.
- Travel may be required.

Skills/Abilities
- Working knowledge of desktop applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Working knowledge of JOPES and DCAPES.
- Working knowledge of newsgroup operation, client applications and server addresses.
- Ability to develop and present briefings to AF senior leaders.
- Ability to work in high-pressure, high stress environment.
- Ability to use mail and message handling applications to retrieve information.
- Working knowledge of command level staffing and electronic staffing processes.
- Ability to work shift work and additional hours during exercises and contingencies.
- This position requires a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- This position requires an SCI indoctrination for access to intelligence information.
Minimum Experience & Education
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 8 years’ work-related experience or 8 years recent experience gained through direct service in the military or government ranks, providing a unique skill to serve at the consultative level.
