What You'll Do
- Manage, configure, and support our network infrastructure — servers, switches, firewalls, SANs — applying industry best practices.
- Install, maintain, and optimize server-based applications and cloud services across multiple platforms.
- Deliver expert technical support to staff at all levels, resolving complex issues involving hardware, software, and network access.
- Lead efforts to enhance system and network security, analyze logs, and ensure compliance with stringent security standards.
- Maintain and test disaster recovery systems, keeping our data safe and available when it counts.
- Support virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), helping design hybrid and cloud-first solutions.
- Collaborate in shaping KPERS' IT roadmap, including a 3-Year IT Plan and Business Continuity Plan.
- Develop and document clear, effective IT policies, procedures, and technical resources.
What We're Looking For
- Candidates with hands-on experience in software/database and hardware management — or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Strong expertise in network protocols (TCP/IP), security tools (firewalls, IPS/IDS), and endpoint protection.
- Solid understanding of operating system internals, authentication systems, and security event management.
- Experience with virtualization technologies and cloud platforms, with a knack for troubleshooting and optimizing performance.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Experience Required
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in software/database and hardware management. Or successful completion of 24 hours in computer science coursework or certification and three (3) years of experience in software/database and hardware management
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of information security controls, monitoring tools, and policy frameworks.
- Understanding of operating system internals and related security configurations.
- Experience with authentication systems and security event management solutions.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and security protocols.
- Familiarity with endpoint protection tools and system hardening techniques.
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, IPS/IDS systems, and network monitoring tools.
- Working knowledge of virtualization technologies and platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Understanding of virtual networking, resource allocation, and virtual machine lifecycle management.
- Experience with public and hybrid cloud environments, including platform services, storage, and security features.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems using methodical troubleshooting and research.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
