    Position: Controller

    Summary:

    The Controller is responsible for overseeing the Property & Corporate Accounting functions of Real Estate Equities and leading a team to fulfill the department's mission. This mission entails serving as a valuable resource for site and corporate staff, residents, and owners by delivering accurate and timely information efficiently.

    The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Direct reports to this position currently include the AP/AR and general accounting team members.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervise the Property and Corporate Accounting departments to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial information, including internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.
    • Coordinate with third party CPA firm on preparation of annual audits and tax returns
    • Provide oversight for Accounts Payable activities, ensuring accurate and timely payment of invoices, information reporting, and identifying opportunities for processing efficiency and expense analysis.
    • Maintain the integrity of general ledger and payment processing systems and controls, verifying the accuracy of all systems, processes, and data.
    • Assist in asset management, including sales and refinances, property insurance, cash flow, and property condition and rehab projects.
    • Gain understanding of real estate operating/partnership agreements as it relates to allocation of income/loss and distribution waterfalls and calculate distributions as needed.
    • Support investor management activities, including communications, distributions, and partner buyouts.
    • Lead and manage Yardi initiatives to enhance team and company efficiencies.
    • Prepare special reports, as needed, by team members and stakeholders.
    • Responsible for the review and submittal of monthly development draw packages to lenders and investors
    • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and general talent management for the accounting department members.
    • Ensure effective controls and processing of cash/treasury management transactions.
    • Ensure compliance with bank reporting requirements, including loan covenants.
    • Assist in review and submittal of annual Form 1099s

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
    • CPA License strongly preferred.
    • Experience with Yardi software strongly preferred.
    • 5+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in multifamily property management or real estate.
    • Strong knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial systems.
    • Proficient computer skills, including Windows-based environment, Excel, and word processing.
    • 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and investigative skills.
    • Adaptable to changing priorities and able to prioritize tasks accordingly.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrates initiative in all aspects of the job.
    • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
    • Maintains confidentiality of financial and other sensitive information. Represents the company as a visible leader within the industry and at company functions
