  • Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Director, Budget the Budget Analyst analyzes financial data and develops moderately complex reports for forecasting and results analysis.

     

    65% - Budget development, preparation, and maintenance of the annual operating budget

     

    • Serve as the primary Budget Office liaison to financial administrators in several College units as assigned
    • Assist in the development of operating budget targets reviewing submitted budgets for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures
    • During the year, monitor and report on variances between the approved budget and actual performance
    • Examine past budgets and research economic and financial developments that affect revenue and expenses
    • Recommend programmatic adjustments or cost containments to avoid or alleviate deficits
    • Through careful examination and discussion with Divisional Finance Managers, gain an understanding of the budgetary divisions assigned
    • Have a strong understanding of the overall College budget and how it operates
    • Work with information technology staff to refine budget development and reporting tools

    20% - Conducts moderately complex budget and financial analyses

    • Assists in the analysis of financial data and extracts, and defines relevant information
    • Interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial
    • Performs statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in the various financial systems
    • Conduct analysis of the financial performance and operations of peer Institutions to identify potential improvement opportunities

    10% - Prepares financial and cost accounting reports

     

    • Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, reporting solutions, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports
    • Review and analysis of the operating results of all assigned divisions
    • Recommend and implement improvements to 'quarterly reports
    • Assist the Director and other staff in the preparation of College reports
    • Work closely with accounting to ensure alignment of the budget.
    • Develops financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results
    • Work closely with the Controller Office for periodic financial performance reporting as well as compliance and consistency of budgeting and accounting
    • Regularly communicate with a variety of persons at all levels, from departmental support staff to Associate Vice Presidents of Finance as required

    5% - Perform other duties as assigned

     

     

     

    Required Skills

    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment
    • Excellent computer skills including strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, along with knowledge of financial computing, database software applications (i.e. Banner) and reporting solutions (ARGOS, Spreadsheet Server or other SQL based software)
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills
    • Ability to independently complete projects on time and accurately with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work closely and effectively with senior Colleqe officials and colleagues

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Minimum of two (2) years' of accounting, finance, or equivalent experience required
