  • Responsibilities

    The Grants PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT AND AWARD MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST within the School of Applied Computational Sciences (SACS) at Meharry Medical College (MCC) will support the Director of External R&D Partnerships to provide (i) grantsmanship expertise and grant-writing support to SACS faculty, (ii) post-award program management, (iii) contract management (including contract development, negotiations, and tracking), (iv) faculty/staff training to increase the success of winning proposals and managing awards, and (v) support with regulatory compliance and research integrity.

     

    PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT, COMPLIANCE, AND REPORTING

    • Conduct searches and identify potential state, federal and foundation funding opportunities and track grant deadlines.
    • Meet with SACS faculty, assess needs, and assist in the writing, development, and submission of grant proposals. Review and edit faculty draft proposals. 
    • Develop checklist of all required elements of a proposal and ensure then are developed.
    • Assist SACS faculty with developing IRB applications to support proposed activity.
    • Support research and regulatory compliance within SACS by monitoring research proposal submissions to ensure compliance with sponsor terms, MCC policies, and local/state/federal regulations (including but not limited to conflict of interest, IRB, intellectual property, and record retention).
    • Assist in maintaining SACS’s research portfolio, aid in internal SACS reports and support the faculty in meeting the reporting requirements of each award.

    • Support the formulation, revision, and implementation of SACS policies and procedures relating to pre- and post-award activities, including contracts management activities.

    CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

    • Support the SACS contract management strategy by assisting in the development of contract templates for Federal awards (aligned with federal uniform administrative alignment 2CFR200), support SACS industry contracts, and the tracking of all contracts (as well as subcontracts) throughout their lifecycle.

    TRAINING

    • Support SACS-sponsored opportunities for training and education by delivering workshops on topics in need by faculty, including (but not limited to) topics on grant management, research compliance, and/or grant writing.

    Required Experience

    • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education/training and proven writing ability are required.
    • At least 3 years of direct experience in a University research and sponsored programs (grants) environment.
    • Experience with grant/technical writing, program development, proofreading, editing, and/or scientific writing.
    • Experience in working with multiple people and projects simultaneously.
    • Experience in managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other software applications necessary to support SACS in the pre- and post-award research process.
