    TDM - TD Madison & Associates is a retained executive search firm that specializes in the broadband & wireless industry.  Our client, ("the company") is the leading network and technology services provider in the Midwest.  

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Vice President of Network Engineering is part of the Corporate Executive team and is responsible for providing leadership and vision to the network engineering group responsible for transport, routing, traffic engineering, servers, and business networking. The position will oversee core network strategy in support of the company's overall strategy, vision and priorities. The VP of Network Engineering will interface closely with internal stakeholders, executive management and internal department heads.

    KEY FUNCTIONS:

    • Lead, develop and oversee the implementation of service provider network technology and strategies.

    • Comprehend, interpret and oversee the company's network design and evolution along with developing creative solutions to ensure alignment with their overall strategy.

    • Understand “Cable” network technology and how that fits into the company and industry strategy with the goal of being a thought leader internally and with industry.

    • Oversee the transport network architecture, technology design and maintenance of the company's long-haul, and metro optical networks.

    • Partner with business team and senior staff to ensure network design, development and install aligns with stakeholder’s expectations for the SMB & Enterprise network architecture.

    • Direct the design, development and integration of border, gateway and internal routing, and associated protocols.

    • Provide input and direction to engineering team to design, implement, maintain, operate, monitor, and report needed information for DNS, DHCP, and related broadband functions.

    • Research and develop new and innovative initiatives to address current and future business needs related to traffic management, engineering and reporting.

    • Review, approve and enforce proactive and preventative policies and procedures of the entire core network system to ensure the network is reliable, maintainable, scalable and flexible.

    • Ensure the reliability, performance, security, efficiency and effectiveness of all assets for routing, traffic, engineering, servers and business networking.

    • Collaborate with Sr. Leadership and Executive Leadership Teams to identify business requirements and communicate network capabilities and concepts.

    • Act as subject matter expert and advisor for network infrastructure including effective communication of strategies to the larger organization.

    • Disseminate and foster a greater understanding of technical knowledge throughout the organization.

    • Demonstrate exemplary communication skills including, vendor relations, negotiation, white papers, public presentations, public technical papers, press releases, etc.

    • Manage and oversee the various network related budgets.

    • Provide inspired leadership needed to develop and retain highly competent, technology and serviceoriented teams. Drive culture of continuous improvement to improve quality, efficiencies, and standards across our network engineering group.

    • Travel to industry conferences, meetings, and industry peer locations as appropriate.

    • Summarize and communicate core network and technically relevant information to the CTO on a timely and consistent basis.

    • Organize or adjust the network workforce as required to meet company goals and expectations.

    • Assume ultimate responsibility network design, outages and corrections.

    • Provide real-time, timely and accurate analytics and visibility of network resources.

    • Provide historical reports, trends, diagrams, illustrations of network resources.

    • Broker interconnections with other network providers.

    • Ensure the network is “future proof”.

    • Maintain and improve network reliability.

    • Adhere to the company's privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical discipline.

    • Generally requires 15+ years related experience with minimum 10 years’ experience in a role demonstrating strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills in a corporate environment.

    • Minimum 6 years’ experience managing network engineering teams with various engineering core competencies including transport, routing, traffic engineering, servers, and business networking.

    • Self-starter and collaborator with the ability to engage with stakeholders directly, set agenda and goals and drive the conversation to achieve goals.

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with business stakeholders and technology teams across all levels of the organization.
