Job Description
The Audience Engagement Manager oversees how event information and programming are communicated to TED’s audiences. You collect, synthesize and disseminate information to attendees through a variety of channels — always keeping the attendee perspective in mind. You also act as a strategic partner with internal stakeholders to ensure their event offerings are presented effectively.
You’re an active listener and a clear communicator; you enjoy collaborative work and can pivot on the fly. You can see the 'big picture' and communicate it seamlessly. As a member of the Events Team, your role plays an essential part in creating an outstanding experience for our attendees and contributes to the overall success of TED’s world-class events.
Responsibilities
Present the multi-faceted event program in a compelling way for attendees, using data and insights to make decisions.
Oversee attendee communications leading up to and during the event and messaging through various platforms (website, emails, custom app, etc.)
Manage program content for event website (conferences.ted.com) and TED’s attendee app (TEDConnect) in alignment with Marketing and Tech.
Work with the Director of Audience Development and Experience to develop event communication plans, strategies and timelines for registered attendees and established communities.
Scale communications plans, processes and resources needed for various styles of TED events from flagship conferences to smaller salon events.
Actively participate in strategic discussions with internal teams (from partnerships to logistics/production and various TED initiatives), offering the audience engagement perspective to guide the planning of events in alignment with overarching goals.
Collect and analyze data on audience program engagement to improve results. Collaborate and innovate with other departments (Tech, Design, and other departments) to continuously improve or create new tools and resources that enhance the attendee/user experience.
Manage signup process for multi-track programming: Oversee writing and editing of content, manage signup process including elements that impact attendance metrics, and collaborate with the programming team.
At events, oversee the management of attendee support (Info Hub) including training, supervising and providing the tools and resources needed to ensure temporary staff at events are set up for success.
Collaborate with Audience Relations and Audience Development managers to achieve strategic team goals.
Lead and manage direct reports.
Qualifications
Degree (preferred) or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, or similar program.
5+ years in communications or relevant experience.
World-class customer support experience, both in-person and online.
Experience in the event industry.
Experience managing people; can build trust, motivate and aid a direct report’s career development and goals.
Expert knowledge working with the following software:
Databases or CRMs to manage customer records
Mailchimp, Sailthru, or similar email marketing platforms
Google applications, especially Sheets and Docs
Excellent project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects/events with competing deadlines and prioritize as needed.
Must be able to think strategically, keeping big-picture goals front of mind.
Advanced problem-solving and decision-making in high-pressure situations.
Excellent collaboration skills; clear and thoughtful communication; adaptable; able to give constructive feedback while maintaining an open mind to new ideas.
Superior content writing and editing skills while adhering to a clear and consistent brand voice.
Experience working closely with product, design, and engineering teams is a plus.
Additional Information
Salary : $80,000 - $95,000

The successful candidate will work 2-3 days per week from our New York City office as part of our hybrid work model. Must be within commuting distance of the office (Soho/Lower Manhattan).
This position requires travel 1-3 times a year to and from TED Conference events within and outside the US.
