    Boys & Girls Club of Milford (BGCM)

    Job Type: Full-Time Salary: $62,500 annually Schedule: Primarily 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM; includes evenings and weekends as required Location: Milford, CT (in person; travel between sites and activities required)

    Position Summary

    The Teen Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and continuous evaluation of high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events for teen members (generally ages 13–18). This role plays a critical leadership function in engaging teen members, building and sustaining teen membership, and ensuring strong outcomes aligned with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) core program areas.

    The Teen Director leads all teen-focused initiatives, including Torch Club, Keystone Club, and Youth of the Year, while supervising teen program staff and managing the teen department budget. The position requires flexibility to meet teens where they are—during after-school hours, evenings, and weekends—and a strong commitment to positive youth development.

    The Teen Director is also responsible for developing and overseeing the BGCM Alumni Association, fostering lifelong relationships with former members and leveraging alumni engagement to support teen programs, mentoring, and organizational growth.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    While this position is primarily focused on teen programming, the Teen Director is a key organizational leader. As such, responsibilities may extend beyond the teen department to support broader Club operations, special initiatives, and multi-site programming needs.

    Teen Programming & Engagement

    Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate comprehensive teen programming reflective of BGCA core program areas: Arts, Education, Leadership & Life Skills, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, and Technology.

    Lead and oversee all teen programs, including but not limited to Torch Club, Keystone Club, Youth of the Year, daily activities, special events, trips, projects, and multi-week programs.

    Actively engage teen members and implement strategies to recruit, retain, and grow teen membership.

    Ensure programs are youth-centered, inclusive, engaging, and aligned with BGCA standards and BGCM program activity standards.

    Supervise and discipline teen members participating in programs and services, ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive environment throughout the clubhouse.

    Alumni Association Leadership

    Develop, launch, and oversee the Boys & Girls Club of Milford Alumni Association.

    Build and maintain a database of alumni members, including contact information, interests, and areas of potential involvement.

    Plan and coordinate alumni events, networking opportunities, and engagement activities.

    Create pathways for alumni to support current teen members through mentoring, career talks, volunteering, and special projects.

    Collaborate with Development and Leadership teams to engage alumni in fundraising, advocacy, and Club awareness efforts.

    Promote a culture of lifelong connection to BGCM by encouraging teen members to remain engaged after graduation.

    Support alumni recognition initiatives and highlight alumni success stories in Club communications.

    Staff Leadership & Supervision

    Recruit, orient, train, supervise, and support teen program staff and volunteers as assigned.

    Provide timely annual performance evaluations and ongoing coaching to staff.

    Foster a collaborative team culture focused on youth outcomes, safety, and professional growth.

    Program Quality, Evaluation & Administration

    Manage and oversee BGCM teen program standards as determined annually.

    Participate in all program evaluation and assessment efforts, including annual member surveys and other impact measurement tools.

    Secure, maintain, and monitor the teen department budget, materials, equipment, and resources.

    Ensure teen program areas are clean, organized, safe, and welcoming.

    Collaboration & Community Partnerships

    Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff from other BGCM departments, other BGCM clubhouses, schools, and community organizations.

    Coordinate and manage program partners, consultants, and instructors who provide specialized instruction, mentoring, and support to teen members.

    Represent BGCM positively within the community and strengthen relationships that support teen programming and engagement.

    Professional Expectations

    Support and lead special events, organization-wide initiatives, and community-facing programs as needed.

    Provide leadership and operational support for school-based sites, including coordination, staffing, and program oversight.

    Serve in a leadership role for summer programming, which may include acting as or supporting a Summer Camp Director, overseeing staff, schedules, compliance, and daily operations.

    Assist with the management of multiple locations, ensuring program quality, consistency, and adherence to BGCM standards across sites.

    Contribute to overall program planning, implementation, and operational responsibilities across the organization as needed.

    Serve as the primary staff lead for the BGCM Alumni Association, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and teen development outcomes.

    Strengthen connections between current teen programming and alumni engagement to build a sustainable pipeline of leadership, mentorship, and community support.

    Participate in individual and group supervision, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.

    Travel between BGCM sites and to off-site activities as needed.

    Perform other related duties as assigned by the Club Director or Director of Operations.

    Position Requirements

    Education & Experience

    Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent experience may be considered.

    Direct experience developing and delivering programs and support services for teens.

    Knowledge of trends in teen recreation, leadership development, community service, and youth engagement.

    Minimum of one year of supervisory experience.

    Skills & Abilities

    Strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

    Ability to build positive relationships with teens, families, staff, and community partners.

    Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage timelines, staff schedules, program dates, and multiple priorities simultaneously.

    Proven ability to work as a self-starter, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and follow-through with minimal supervision.

    High level of proficiency using digital tools, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Forms) for communication, scheduling, documentation, and reporting.

    Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support program planning, data tracking, communication, and operational efficiency.

    Demonstrated ability to effectively use and maintain calendars, deadlines, and planning systems to ensure programs and staff responsibilities are executed on time.

    Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

    Proficiency in MS Office and web-based tools preferred.

    Ability to work with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.

    Additional Requirements

    Must be or become CPR/First Aid certified.

    Must possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

    Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, including evenings, weekends, and seasonal schedule changes.
