    Job Description

NOSQL PLATFORM ENGINEER LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO, CA OR NEW YORK, NY

Have the opportunity to join a lead innovator and recognized open source commiter in NoSQL working in either their San Francisco, CA or New York City offices as a NoSQL Platform Engineer on the NoSQL team.  There are some common yet complex problems application teams at at this software product firm that face - challenges of large-scale data storage, low-latency retrievals, high-volume requests and high availability over a distributed environment. The NoSQL Platform Engineering group, aims to create standardized solutions to these challenges by building Cassandra core services and technology frameworks for enterprise-wide use. This team is building these platforms using NoSQL open source technologies. But, when it comes to latency and high availability, these technologies often don't meet the firm's service expectations in their off-the-shelf form. They are challenging these NoSQL technologies and innovating change that, which is why they have been making novel open source contributions to technologies such as Cassandra, Apache HBase and Kafka. The NoSQL Platform Engineering has introduced the notion of Standby regions in HBase, allowing for High Availability Reads, and championed features such as improved caching, multi-tenancy support and the HBase Spark connector.

If you are passionate about distributed systems, have seen them behave in production and have interacted with the open source community, this team would like to talk to you about an opening on the NoSQL Platform Engineering team.

You'll need to have (Qualifications): • Get to know development teams across this software product firm and understand their application requirements and access patterns working as a Solutions Architect and their go to NoSQL Platform Engineer for low-latency solutions. • Help teams working with Cassandra, HBase, or Kafka to architect their applications from schema design to performance tuning and failure analysis. • Identify feature gaps in the technologies and work with the open source community to co-design and co-develop those features and bug fixes.

You'll need to have (Qualifications): • Requires a minimum of 2 years of NoSQL data engineering experience. Must have deployed NoSQL to production environments, stuck around to solve production problems and have written code against NoSQL in production. • Experience designing and implementing low-latency, high-scalability systems • Strong experience with systems-level Java - a thorough knowledge of Garbage Collection internals, Concurrency models, Native & Async IO and Off-heap memory management is a must. • Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems in a production setting and providing patches in a timely manner. • Proven open source community interactions

We'd love to see (Desired Skills): • Upstream, accepted open source contributions to Cassandra, HBase,  or other NoSQL technologies. • Experience writing code against Cassandra in a production environment. • Experience working with NoSQL internals, preferably Cassandra internals. Knowledge on how it interacts with Operating Systems and File Systems. • Experience standing up NoSQL clusters working within a 24x7 environment.
