  • Responsibilities

    Specifically, duties include:

    Location is either in Franklin VA or Ahoskie NC

    Responsible wood sourcing

    Regional forest certification management

    • Manage internal forest certification processes such as
      • Field auditing
      • Chain of Custody Credit Ledgers
      • Lead internal audits
      • Develop and manage CAR’s to drive improvement
    • Manage external forest certification audits including
      • Develop audit plans to ensure the best audit outcomes
      • Manage internal staff and audit flow
      • Manage external auditors
      • Successfully close audit findings
    • Assist in document review, maintenance and control

    Enterprise wide forest certification

    • Conduct internal system audits
    • Assist with annual document maintenance
    • Conduct supply base evaluations and annual reviews

    High Conservation Value Program (HCV)

    • Manage ongoing HCV Program work
    • Collaborate in the identification and evaluation of regionally significant forest systems such as
      • Understocked hardwood stands
      • Early successional hardwood stands
      • Wiregrass-Longleaf systems
    • Assist in developing guidelines and processes to ensure harvesting practices are sustainable
    • Monitor program and drive improvements
    • Conduct HCV Assessments to help procurement staff ensure harvest is the best outcome for every tract

    Partner with the Wood Procurement Team to support the creation and implementation of initiatives to ensure that wood sourcing is carried out consistent with the value places on the forest, such as

    • Implementation of Track & Trace data collection system & improvements
    • Perform ongoing and post-harvest audits
    • Work with sawmills and other suppliers to enhance their commitment to sustainability
    • Work with external partners to support our efforts to increase access to certification and contribute to longleaf pine restoration in the region


    Conduct Field audits to improve supply chain performance

    • Evaluate the use of best management practices (BMPs) to ensure tracts are properly closed out
    • Partner with the Wood Procurement Team to improve supplier BMP and tract data performance
    • Collect tract level data to support commitment to supply chain transparency

    Review T&T data to ensure accurate input of data related to

    Appropriate merchandising of wood

    Harvest type

    Presence of land use change

    Stand type, age and other attributes

    Regulatory compliance

    GPS coordinates

    Compile, manage and analyze data from audits and other Wood Procurement Team activities and regularly report on trends or progress

    Complement compiled data with GIS data, where possible, to create and maintain a visual representation of the wood supply area

    Work with a diverse team of professionals constantly working to improve the Track & Trace Program and support leadership position in sustainable sourcing


    • Lead Regional IMG efforts
      • Perform landowner outreach activities to encourage reforestation, use of trained loggers,
      • Lead efforts to increase certified content in the supply chain, and other activities to ensure sustainability of the forest resources
    • Develop management plans
      • Inspect tracts to be added to our IMG
      • Write plans according to Our IMG standards
    • Manage periodic audits of IMG in the region
    • BS in Forest Management or related field
    • Minimum of five (5) year experience related to wood procurement and sustainability certification programs
    • Knowledge of forestry certification systems such as SFI Fiber Sourcing, FSC/PEFC/SFI Chain of Custody systems
    • Experience managing CoC credit ledgers and supplier certificate verifications
    • Familiarity with ATFS Independently Managed Group and FSC Forest Management Group certifications
    • Experience with internal and external forest certification system auditing such as
    • Leading and manage internal and external audits and audit teams
    • Managing the collection of audit data and information
    • Experience closing audits and addressing findings
    • Working knowledge of bottomland hardwood, oak-pine, and upland hardwood forest types
    • Knowledge of forestry BMPs and regulations and harvesting regimes
    • Ability to maintain high levels of professionalism and safety while visiting working forestry operations and/or interfacing with suppliers and landowners
    • Demonstrated managerial experience including
    • Ability to direct the work of others with varying skill and experience levels
    • Coach and mentor staff to develop and retain talent
    • Work across departments to manage projects and tasks
    • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to support sustainability policies and procedures
    • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision to meet objectives and deadlines
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt as needed
    • Demonstrated technical writing skills
    • Experience with/knowledge of Sustainable Biomass Program Standards
    • Some experience in writing forestry management plans a plus, including
    • Assist landowners in developing management objectives
    • Perform field evaluations
    • Develop stand descriptions and silvicultural prescriptions
