    Job Description System Engineer (Office 365)

     SCOPE

     The Systems Engineer is responsible for the overall lifecycle for the technology and services that are comprised of the infrastructure applications – Active Directory, Exchange, Proofpoint, Mimecast, Office 365 and other related applications/technologies. The role ensures that the design, implementation and operation of the technologies and services are in accordance with the requirements, business expectations, and industry best practices for our business and technology. The role provides expertise in cross-functional and intra-departmental efforts, interfacing and assisting IS peer groups, as well as IT senior management with service reviews, capacity planning and reporting and performance metrics. The Systems Engineer handles assignments of a more complex nature and provides guidance and direction to the Systems Administrator II and Systems Administrator I as escalation and Subject Matter Expert (SME).

     

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

     Stewardship of all technologies and services in the core infrastructure applications areas (Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Exchange, Proofpoint, Mimecast, Office 365). This involves the ability to design, implement and clearly document the lifecycle of said technologies.

     Acts as a technical subject matter expert for the implementation of new projects and ensures optimal configurations. Coordinates with core infrastructure team to create optimal server infrastructure in support of new applications by researching and recommending hardware/software technologies in support of application requirements.

     

    • Provides effective Level II application support by researching and analyzing issues & requests to determine application related implications.
    • Communicate effectively with all impacted parties.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with a sense of urgency to minimize any system downtime.
    • Develops relevant and specific Knowledge to assist Service Desk in supporting Infrastructure Applications systems
    • Creates monitoring and reporting that clearly defines performance and capacity metrics which enable management to make clear decisions based on defined measurements that are fact-based.
    • Enhances functionality of systems by developing and modifying scripts to automate system processes.

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

     

    A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent), ten plus years overall IT/IS experience plus three to five years’ experience in implementing and managing Office 365 and Azure Identity solutions. 5+ years of Exchange 2010+ experience is preferred.

     

     SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS

    • In-depth knowledge of Windows, Active Directory, MS Exchange 2010, Proofpoint, Mimecast Archiving, Azure Active Directory and Office 365
    • Ability to implement and manage Office 365 applications (Teams, OneDrive, Sharepoint, OneNote, Forms, Yammer, Flow)
    • Deep understanding of Active Directory (On-premises and Azure AD services)
    • Strong skillset managing Office 365 and Azure AD with Powershell
    • Extensive Experience with Enterprise Exchange Hybrid / Exchange Online Migration
    • MCSA: O365 desired
    • ITIL foundation v3 is desired
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to participate in multiple concurrent projects
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to work in teams with a collaborative interpersonal style
    • Good verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively document procedures
    • Ability to work weekends and after business hours
    • Possess accurate keyboarding proficiency

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    • Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
    • Must have the ability to position self to maintain computers and various network equipment in the buildings, including under desks, in the server rooms, and anywhere cabling installation and maintenance would be required for troubleshooting and optimal organizational connectivity and usage.
    • Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to perceive and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
    • Detect and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; converse in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
