POSITION: Network Engineer
LOCATION: Currently remote/WFH but would like someone local who can be on-site if needed
TGen is searching for a Network Engineer to join their growing team. The role requires a thorough knowledge of networks and how networks function; it involves not just understanding of internet protocols, but also of underlying standards such as Ethernet and fiber optics. In addition, a good knowledge of how both hardware and software interact in order to maximize the efficiency and performance of computing equipment is required in order to fully leverage the resources available.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configuration.
- Performing disaster recovery operations when required
- Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems
- Replacing faulty network hardware components when required
- Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring virus protection software and email applications
- Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made
- Collaborating with network users about solving existing system problems
- Coordinating computer network access and use
- Designing, configuring, and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
- Visualize solutions by using strong analytical and critical thinking skills
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE:
- 5+ years of networking, infrastructure, and telephony experience
- Bachelor degree in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus (preferred) or equivalent work experience
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
- Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and advanced networking and security concepts
- Experience working with Cisco networking, Cisco Wireless Environments, Cisco IP Telephony environments, Dell networking (including Force 10 and Power Connect, Windows, Linux, and Mac networking as well as LAN/WAN troubleshooting
- Experience with network security
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, controllers, and cabling standards
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
- Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
- Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection
- Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
- Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization and communicate well with both technical and non-technical team members
- Ability to work independently as well as working successfully in a team environment
- Network Certifications like CompTIA Network+, CCNA, CCNP, and/or CCIE are a nice to have (not required)
