    Seeking an associate lab scientist for a cannabis testing laboratory operating as a Safety Compliance Facility under the Michigan Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA). Under Michigan law, all medical marihuana and adult-use cannabis products sold or distributed under the MMFLA are required to undergo mandatory quality assurance test that includes all of the following: (a) Moisture content. (b) Potency analysis. (c) Tetrahydrocannabinol level. (d) Tetrahydrocannabinol acid level. (e) Cannabidiol and cannabidiol acid levels. (f) Foreign matter inspection. (g) Microbial and mycotoxin screening. (h) Pesticides. (i) Chemical residue. (j) Fungicides. (k) Insecticides. (l) Metals screening. (m) Residual solvents levels. (n) Terpene analysis (optional) (o) Water activity content.

    Job Description

    State licensed MMFLA Safety Compliance Facility (cannabis testing lab) in Warren, MI is seeking a candidate with experience working in testing laboratories with sample preparation and basic lab equipment and procedures. We prefer experience with HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS and/or qPCR.

    Applicable bachelors degree required; masters or PhD preferred.

    We are looking for a scientist who can assist and support our Lab Director to help us build a successful business through rigorous attention to quality and client service. The ideal candidate will have experience with LCMS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC and/or ICP-AES/MS, PCR, Petrifilm Culture Plate methods, traditional plating and microbiology. They will have familiarity with ISO/UEC 17025:2017 requirements and Shimadzu, Agilent, and/or Thermo instrumentation and software. Experience in basic and advanced laboratory techniques, computer systems and applicable software is required. Our applicants must be able to work well as a team and fill multiple roles as required in a new business. May work with hazardous materials and chemicals.

    Job duties include:

    • Compliance with the MMFLA rules and regulations associated for Safety Compliance facilities. • Adherence to and assistance with the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure that they are up-to-date and have met all validation requirements for ISO 17025 and the State of MI.

    • Adhere to and assist the Lab Director to develop and maintain appropriate quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes and procedures in order to guarantee accuracy of analysis and quality of results within the level of detection for the analytical method and equipment used • Intake and process raw cannabis or cannabis-containing materials in accordance with SOP to conduct State-required analysis • Follow equipment operating instructions, troubleshoot equipment issues and perform preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations • Maintain reagent and other laboratory supplies in stock, order replacement supplies and document and inventory receipt • Stay current with developments in the field, read technical publications and participate in educational opportunities • Maintain other laboratory equipment and supplies • Review all reported data and QA/QC SOPs • Prepare client reports and verify that all reporting has been uploaded to the METRC system or other State of MI required database for internet and regulatory access • Support inquiries from other employees, clients and the Michigan Bureau of Medical Marihuana and timely respond as required • Other duties as required

    Must have valid driver's license and be willing to be subjected to a background check to be approved by the Marijuana Regulatory Agency to operate at a Safety Compliance Facility.
