Finish Carpenter (for Retail Fixture Installation Projects)

THE BRIAN MALLARD GROUP OF TEXAS LP

Finish Carpenter (for Retail Fixture Installation Projects)

Richmond, VA
Full Time
Paid
  • Responsibilities

Mallard Group is hiring at least 1-2 finish carpenters that possess some mill-work and cabinetry experience for an urgent start date (next week, September 7, 2020) for a retail construction project located in the Richmond, VA area. The carpenters' involvement in this project will be around 8 to 9 weeks, but could lead to a permanent position if the qualified candidate is willing to join Mallard Group and become a traveling carpenter / retail fixture installer. The working schedule is Monday through Thursday, working only four 10-hour days. Our starting wages range from $17-25 per hour, based on experience and skill level. We also pay drive-time wages and mileage if you ever have to commute more than 50 miles. Our recruitment manager will explain all that in further detail if you are selected for a phone interview.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO START:

    • Reliable transportation is a must
    • Construction experience with a focus in carpentry / millwork / cabinet-making and/or cabinet installation. About 20% of this particular job falls under the category of “finish carpentry,” but you don’t have to be master-level carpenter to apply.
    • Ability to lift 40 pounds or more on a frequent basis, and an ability to go up and down a ladder throughout a normal 8-hour shift.
    • Willingness to learn, listen, and be led first, a willingness to be flexible and adapt, and a willingness to then take some initiative to always "find work" even after given tasks have been completed.
    • Must be able to work in the United States. Applicants must complete and I-9 employment verification document and be able to provide 2 forms of (official) identification.
    • Must be willing to undergo a background check. Applicants to this job cannot have any history of shoplifting or theft of any kind, considering we will be working around valuable equipment, tools, merchandise and other materials which do not belong to us. We have hired felons before, but applicants must be prepared to explain their criminal records. Hiring and not hiring anyone based on the results of a background check is left to the discretion of Mallard Group. We reserve the right to hire or not hire anyone we want, for any reason.

    PREFERRED CANDIDATES WOULD......

    • Possess the basic skills listed above, plus the intangible values of being inquisitive and being solution-minded.
    • Own an advanced-level set of power tools, power saws and carpentry-related machinery which could be brought on-site and used to perform the job. If any machinery is damaged while in use, Mallard Group will most likely agree to compensate-for or replace the damaged equipment.
    • Preferred candidates would possess some basic knowledge of shelving systems (particularly gondola-style shelving, but also pallet-racking), and know how to build them, move them, and deconstruct them. In other words, retail fixture installation experience is a major plus! Please mention this to a Mallard Group recruiter if you receive a phone interview.
    • Preferred candidates would be willing to travel to our other projects following this 8-week-long project in South Carolina and "hit the road" for the foreseeable future. We understand this is a major life-choice which must be made, but candidates who are willing to travel will be hired first! We want to hire our fixture install team members for full-time work.
