    We are seeking a candidate who will assist our ongoing research directed toward understanding mechanisms of fibrosis. The candidate will perform supervised work on several projects using mice, human samples, and cultured cells. General duties will include breeding, weaning and genotyping genetically altered mice, assisting in collection, processing and cataloging tissue samples from mice, culture of primary cells, RNA and protein extraction, performing various biologic analyses (gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, qRT-PCR, etc.), analyzing protein levels in blood of patients with pulmonary fibrosis and controls, and participating in laboratory discussions, organization and regulatory procedures. Maintenance of up-to-date, comprehensive and neat laboratory records will be required. Will require occasional weekend work.

    Under supervision from the lab manager and principal investigator, candidate will perform complex biological procedures and analyses in a basic science laboratory. All of the experiments require meticulous technique and the ability to optimize and troubleshoot a variety of different protocols. The candidate will be expected to help prepare experimental results for presentation and publication.

    You will be working at the Medical University of South Carolina through Thendor Therapeutics LLC or directly through MUSC.

    Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of hands-on experience or a Master's degree in Molecular Biology.

    Job Duties:

    35% - Analyze blood samples for target proteins using ELISA

    Catalog samples from controls and patients

    Aliquot samples to avoid freeze-thaw cycles

    Measure levels of several proteins using ELISA

    25% - Perform variety of cell and molecular biological techniques, record data. Analyze experimental results using appropriate software; help prepare experimental results for presentation and publication.

    10% - Maintain mouse colony and perform experimental and routine procedures using established approvals and protocols.

    10% - Develop and test new laboratory methods to meet changing needs; troubleshoot experimental protocols.

    10% - Assist in culture of primary cells and cell lines.

    10% - Maintain laboratory supplies; prepare media, buffers, and other reagents as needed. Keep complete laboratory records/notebook.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift 25 lbs. boxes, from floor level to maximum height of 72 inches, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to push/pull file boxes from one location to another at floor level. (Frequent) Ability to maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors, normally. (Continuous) Ability to hear and recognize various alarms emitting from work area systems. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand conversations. (Continuous) Ability to work in a darkroom for processing film, etc. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and annually. (Continuous)

    Additional New Requirements: Ability to work rotating shifts as required. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
