    THPO/NAGPRA Assistant

    Reports to: Culture Preservation Director/THPO

    Salary (Grade): $21.66 (G16-E)

    Status: Regular, FT (Non-Exempt)

    Location: Angel Decora Museum, 601 E College Drive Winnebago NE 68071

    Job Purpose & Position Overview

    Incumbent will assist the Culture Preservation Director/THPO and the NAGPRA/Museum Assistant with all clerical duties, research project, and administrative functions as assigned. Incumbent will help provide tours of the museum, Assist the NAGPRA/Museum with setting up exhibits and changing out the exhibits, assist with tours to patrons that visit the Angel DeCora Museum. Will do research regarding the Winnebago/Ho-Chunk history, traditions, and customs. Willing to learn the Ho-Chunk language.

    Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.

    Assist with organizing Angel DeCora Museum tours.

    Assist the NAGPRA/Museum Assistant with exhibits.

    Assist with the CPD/THPO and Museum/Assistant with Repatriations

    Organize and maintain a filling system documenting WTN history, traditions and historical knowledge.

    Assist with preparing reports, documents, letters,

    Process department/program requests of traditional knowledge and research information.

    Provide additional support (clerical, secretarial & administrative) as required to the Preservation staff as needed.

    Will do research as needed regarding Winnebago/Ho-Chunk history, traditions and language

    Demonstrate ability to be flexible and follow instructions as needed

    Demonstrate ability to work with others in collaboration

    Demonstrate ability to work through and overcome obstacles to meet project goals and objectives

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

    At least one year of office/clerical experience required.

    One or more years’ experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations preferred.

    Knowledge of the Winnebago/Ho-Chunk history, traditions, and language.

    Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access programs.

    Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Must successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, education, character, and criminal background check.

    Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self-Determination Act, Tribal organizations and funding opportunities.

    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet driver’s eligibility guidelines for insurance.

    Able and willing to travel.

    Supervisor Responsibilities:

    Supervisory duties when THPO/Cultural Preservation Director and Curator is out of office

    Education Preference:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.

    Training Requirements:

    Must attend all department meetings and training courses as required or directed by Culture Preservation Director.

    Physical Requirements:

    Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

    Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

    While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

    Mental Requirements:

    Reading, writing, calculating

    Above average social interaction skills

    Reasoning/Analysis

    Works with minimal to no supervision

    Language Requirements:

    Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

    Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
