SUMMARY:
The welder performs high-quality welds and assembles custom stainless-steel weldments using GTAW/TIG processes in a clean, indoor, and airconditioned manufacturing facility. This role requires careful attention to detail, the ability to interpret technical drawings, and a strong commitment to high quality and safety standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform TIG welding on stainless steel tubing and components according to designs, drawings, and work instructions.
· Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, GD &T , and follow build travelers.
· Conduct fit-up, tack, full welds, and post-weld finishing (buffing, grinding, blending, and passivation when applicable).
· Weld and assemble using vises, fixtures, and jigs ; suggest improvements to enhance repeatability and throughput.
· Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, steel rules, height gauges) to verify and conform with tolerance requirements.
· Operate shop equipment and basic hand/power tools.
· Perform accurate in-process and final visual inspections and document results in production records.
· Collaborate with quality and engineering inspectors to resolve nonconformance issues; participate in first article builds.
· Maintain a clean, organized work area in accordance with the 5S methodology and lean manufacturing principles.
· Assist with training junior team members and cross-functional tasks.
· Adhere to PPE requirements, shop safety policies, and OSHA regulations; report hazards and nonconformances.
· Support orbital welding setups.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
· Formal training, apprenticeship, or two + years of welding experience (or equivalent).
· Proficient with stainless steel TIG welding ; able to produce consistent, repeatable, reliable, and clean welds.
· Successful candidate will be required to pass a 2”pipe, Schedule 10, 6G, open butt, TIG test, per ASME B31.3.
· Ability to read blueprints and understand weld symbols.
· Basic math and measurement skills; able to complete job routers and quality records. ****
PREFERRED—BUT NOT REQUIRED—QUALIFICATIONS
· AWS certifications.
· Orbital welding experience or willingness to train (Critical Systems, AMI, Swagelok, etc.).
· Experience with purge techniques and weld discoloration standards.
· Familiarity with AWS, ASME, and similar standards.
· Experience in regulated or high-spec environments (semiconductor, aerospace, medical, or biotech).
· Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, 5S methodology, and continuous improvement concepts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Clean, indoor, air-conditioned manufacturing facility.
· Use of PPE: safety glasses, gloves, sleeves, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear.
· Exposure to industrial power equipment and power hand tools (high-voltage/amperage power supplies, hydraulic presses, angle grinders, etc.).
