TIG and Laser Welder
Department: Manufacturing / Production
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Houston, TX
The Mission
We are looking for a TIG and Laser Welder who understands that the weld is the seal. At Lunar Resources, welding is not a downstream step — it is a critical process in the manufacture of high-reliability electromechanical assemblies that operate in demanding environments. Our welds close hermetic packages, join dissimilar metals, and have to hold under conditions that leave no margin for defects. If you take pride in a clean, repeatable weld and you understand why it matters, we want to hear from you.
About the Role
You will perform precision TIG and laser welding operations on small-scale, tight-tolerance assemblies including Kovar, stainless steel, copper, and dissimilar metal joints. Much of this work supports UHV hermetic sealing — meaning leak integrity and weld quality are primary, and there are no cosmetic excuses for a structurally compromised joint.
This role is open to candidates across experience levels. What matters most is precision, process discipline, and the ability to execute consistently on difficult welds.
What You'll Do
Perform precision TIG welding on thin-wall tubing, flanges, and small electromechanical assemblies across a range of alloys including stainless steel, Kovar, and copper
Operate laser welding systems for hermetic seam and spot-welding applications, including fixturing and parameter setup
Weld dissimilar metal combinations with attention to joint design, heat input, and metallurgical compatibility
Set up and qualify weld parameters for new joints and geometries, documenting settings for repeatable production use
Inspect welds visually and dimensionally, support leak testing and process verification activities
Maintain welding equipment, optics, wire feeds, and shielding gas systems in ready condition
Collaborate with engineers to develop and refine welding procedures for new assemblies
Maintain traceability documentation and weld logs for all production work
Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical production milestones
Must be authorized to work in the United States
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated TIG welding skill on thin-wall, precision, or small-scale assemblies — this is not structural or pipe welding
Experience welding stainless steel and at least one other alloy in our stack (Kovar, copper, Inconel, or similar)
Ability to weld dissimilar metal joints and understand the challenges involved
Laser welding experience is a strong plus; candidates with strong TIG backgrounds and mechanical aptitude will be considered for cross-training
Comfort reading engineering drawings, weld symbols, and process travelers
Steady hands, patience, and an honest relationship with quality — you know the difference between a weld that looks good and one that is good
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Bonus
Experience with hermetic sealing processes or vacuum-compatible assemblies
Familiarity with AWS D17.1, MIL-W-8604, or similar aerospace/high-reliability welding standards
CWI certification or AWS certification in relevant processes
Prior work in a cleanroom-adjacent or contamination-controlled environment
