  • Responsibilities

    The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-facing representative of the Company’s Research and Development Department (R&D) with a primary responsibility of engaging in the exchange of published scientific data and other medical and/or scientific information with external customers (Health Care Providers, researchers, professional organization leadership, and formulary decision-makers).

    The MSL is the front-line member of the Medical Affairs organization responsible for establishing and maintaining educational and research collaborations. In addition, the MSL will interact with internal customers (and their consultants) from both the Commercial and R&D organizations regarding the scientific and medical information relating to the Company’s product(s).

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Act as the Company’s primary clinical/scientific resource to Health Care Providers (HCPs) in his/her assigned geography for information pertaining to disease state and product(s) to ensure awareness and understanding
    • Serve as a conduit for accurate and updated clinical, scientific, and medical information between Thought Leaders (TLs)/investigators and the Company’s Medical Affairs group.
    • Establish, foster, cultivate, and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with TLs in the therapeutic areas in which the Company has current and future interests.
    • Present clinical and scientific data on the Company’s product(s) and relevant therapeutic areas to formulary decision-makers, as requested.
    • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues from industry leaders to appropriate internal partners to shape Company research, development, and commercial strategies.
    • Maintain and demonstrate a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, clinical information, and product data.
    • Have an ancillary role in R&D/Clinical Development and assist with Company sponsored studies, as requested.
    • Provide clinical/scientific expertise to investigators involved in collaborative post-approval studies; and
    • Work in conjunction with appropriate internal colleagues to support collaboration and interaction with professional/scientific organizations.

    Qualifications:

    • An advanced degree, such as MD, PharmD, Advanced Practice nurse (NP, DNP), or PA in medical sciences required.
    • A minimum of two years of experience as a clinical/medical science liaison in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries required. (emphasis on hospital-based applications preferred)
    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Pain management/post-operative pain management experience preferred
    • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical/healthcare market, acceptable practices, and related regulations is required.
    • Knowledge of hospital formulary practices and decision-making processes is preferred.
    • Knowledge of hospital/surgical center protocol and process is required.
    • Advanced understanding of clinical/medical science is required.
    • Knowledge of product-related therapeutic area clinical application is strongly preferred.
    • Ability to integrate and work in cross functional network
    • Demonstrated project management ability
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
    • Capable of engaging in frequent business travel (approximately 60 – 80 percent of time), including the ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends
    • Capable of extended periods of car travel.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications
    • Valid driver’s license

    • Committed to the concept of team and working within the framework of the Medical Affairs Department and organization, including as it pertains to compliance with policies, systems, and practices
    • Demonstrated ability to work with software tracking/logging systems
