    Job Description

    The Design Engineering Intern will be participating in design and development of composite components and assemblies from concept through production lifecycles. This includes detailed analyses and modeling required to develop these components to meet customer requirements and program performance targets. The design engineer intern needs to be able to create progress reports and provide open communication regarding the program status of their designs, as well as be able to work well within a fast-paced team environment. While fundamental understanding of designing with composite materials is required, training on the development of component lamination plans, component connection methodologies, and failure prediction and analysis of assemblies will be provided.

    Specific accountabilities of the role are noted below:

    • Participating in conceptual and detailed design of composite components and assemblies
    • Generate solid and surface component and assembly CAD models
    • Create and modify 2D drawings
    • Participating in finite element analyses primarily using layered shell elements
    • Generate finite element analysis reports and presentations
    • Compose and track bill of materials for production components
    • Work as part of a team of design and manufacturing engineering staff
    • Compose and track material specifications when required
    • Participate in creation of fabrication work instructions when required

     

     

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering – Senior undergraduate or graduate students

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

    • Familiarity with composite part fabrication and assembly is required
    • Familiarity with structural analysis of composite laminates and joints is required
    • All Microsoft Office software including Project 2008 or later
    • Great problem solving and communication skills
    • Ability to work on projects demanding fast production startups
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks, CATIA V5, NX CAD Software
    • Communication and analytical skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders
    • Experience working with high performance teams
    • Ability to maintain safe work environment

     

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

    • Knowledge of using ANSYS 17.0 or similar established FE software package
    • Experience in global organization
    • Background in vehicle design and prototyping
    • Experience with composite fabrication methods and processes
    • Project management
    • Lean Principals
