Position Summary : The Fabrication & Maintenance Specialist designs, builds, modifies, installs, and repairs custom training aids, models, mockups, exhibits, displays, and related equipment for Army training missions at Fort Hood. Using blueprints, technical drawings, and a variety of materials (metal, wood, plastics, fiberglass, rubber, electronics, etc.), this role supports hands-on operational training, ensures training device reliability, and maintains files/documentation of all designs produced. You will be essential to Army training realism and operational success
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design, draw, and develop blueprints for new training aids and devices
• Fabricate, modify, paint, and assemble models, mockups, ranges, signs, displays, and specialized training props using multiple material types
• Install and maintain field markers, terrain models, and custom displays in training areas and classrooms
• Maintain files/documentation of all drawings, blueprints, and fabrication records (for contract and audit)
• Perform operational and organizational maintenance on fabricated devices (inspections, repairs, preventive care)
• Ensure safety compliance and follow Army/DoD standards in all workshop and field work
Required Skills and Abilities:
• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training preferred
• 2+ years' experience in fabrication, carpentry, machining, mechanical, electrical, or related trades; prior DoD/Army fabrication experience highly valued
• Ability to read and develop technical blueprints, electrical/mechanical drawings, and fabrication plans
• Proficient in use of fabrication tools and equipment: saws, welders, paint booth, 3D printers, hand/power tools, etc.
• Familiarity with Army/DoD safety, signage, and quality standards
• Ability to perform routine and preventive maintenance and repairs on training aids and devices
• Strong organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills
• Valid driver's license; can operate on post as required
• Capable of working in team and independent settings
• U.S. Citizenship
• Proficient English (written/verbal)
• Professional, courteous, and able to interact with government staff
• Timely, accurate documentation and reporting skills
• All personnel must identify themselves appropriately as contractors
• Ability to stand and work for extended periods
• Ability to lift and move objects/materials up to 50 lbs
• Manual dexterity for use of fabrication tools and equipment
• Ability to work in shop, warehouse, and field environments with variable conditions
